An American woman has been charged with human trafficking for trying to take a baby home from the Philippines. Jennifer Erin Talbot is reported to be the woman in question, according to the Associated Press. She was arrested for attempting to take a newborn baby who was only 6 days old back to the U.S. with her. According to the AP, the baby was found in a shoulder bag with her as she was trying to smuggle the child onto a plane.

The baby was hidden in the bag, and Talbot was intercepted as she tried to board the plane at the Manila airport. According to reports, she presented some paperwork that was said to indicate that the baby's mother was allowing the child to be taken, however it was unsigned. Talbot also did not declare the baby, and was clearly attempting to smuggle her in her shoulder bag to board the plane. She concealed the bag as well as she went through x-ray to avoid detection of the child.

According to the UK Daily Mail, Talbot is 42 years old and is married with 5 children. She is said to be from Utah, however she told authorities she is from Ohio. Authorities are now looking for the child's parents for further investigation. According to Heavy, Talbot has claimed that she is the child's aunt. Although she is American, it is being reported that she does have ties to the Philippines. The baby is currently safe with the authorities while the investigation is underway.

According to the Daily Mail, Talbot met the baby's mother online and went there to "adopt" the baby, however it is unclear whether the arrangement was legal, given the fact that she was trying to conceal the baby. This is what has prompted the charges of human trafficking. They are still unsure whether any money was exchanged between the two parties.

In photographs and video taken at the scene, Talbot appears tearful and distraught at her situation. She could potentially face life in prison if found guilty of the charges.
