Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans recently announced that she underwent a tubal ligation, more commonly known as having her tubes tied, and revealed that there was more than one reason for her to have the procedure done.

Evans is the mother of three children and told E! News that she is “happy with the number of kids I have now.” The mother of 9-year-old Jace, 4-year-old Kaiser and 2-year-old Ensley explained that birth control wasn't the only reason she opted to undergo the procedure and that there were underlying health issues as well.

"I decided to do it because I had constant pain on my left side and I get extremely sick when pregnant," Evans explained. "Being back on my regular cycle was very important for me. I was on the IUD for birth control and thinned out my lining," she said.

“I decided to get this procedure because I had a really bad problem of irregular bleeding, which lead to ultrasounds then lead to my OBGYN suggesting exploration surgery and tubes being tied,” the 27-year-old reality star told Us Weekly. “She told me my IUD made my lining very thin, which isn’t good.”

She also confirmed that having the surgery made doctors aware of other potential issues she was facing. The reality star ended up having one ovary removed as well as a number of cysts and polyps. "In the end I had my left ovary and polyps removed. They tied my right one though so I still have hormones," she added.

"I would have never known about any of this unless I had this procedure done," she said. "In the long run, it was the best decision for my health and gave me a lot of answers to many problems I was experiencing."

While Evans had posted an Instagram story from her hospital room stating she hated being alone while recuperating in the hospital, her husband, David Eason arrived the next day to take her home. Eason, who had previously been fired from MTV for homophobic remarks he made on social media, posted a photo of Evans in a wheelchair holding a surfboard.

"Got my babe a get well soon gift to encourage her to get back on her feet!" he wrote. "It sucks you had to go through this but at least we got some answers, and you should be all better in no time! I love you so much!"

A representative for Evans told US Weekly that she is "healing properly and focusing on her business ventures."
