Now that families are social distancing and self-isolating due to the coronavirus health pandemic one thing has become clear and that's that parents really don't have a lot of extra time on their hands despite what social media thinks. Regardless of whether you're a stay at home parent, a parent who is now being forced to work remotely or a parent who has to deal with the emotional and physical burden of having the leave their home as an essential worker, parenting is more difficult than ever during this health crisis.

Dealing with homeschooling and entertaining children who are growing increasingly nervous and restless is a full-time job and one that isn't really allowing much time for many parents to relax, much less pick up a new hobby or learn something new. But that's exactly what First Daughter and senior advisor to President Trump, Ivanka Trump is doing during this health crisis. The 38-year-old mother of three recently gave an interview with Yahoo! Finance where she explained that she's a “pretty strong advocate of social distancing from a personal practice perspective,” adding that she's been working home as much as possible and “doing as much telephonically as possible."

Trump agreed that like many other families around the world, her children, Arabella, Theodore, and Joseph are “growing more restless by the day” but that she's making the best of it. “It's unique times but I’m trying to reframe all of it through the lens of the joy of having this family connectivity, even if it is sometimes taxing,” she told Sibile Marcellus. She also stated that with no work, school or social commitments in the evenings, she's using all her free time to “expand my own mind.”

Trump stated that while her children are napping or sleeping she's working to “explore things I normally wouldn't have prioritized”. The White House advisor explained that “I've got a Coursera free course going in Greek and Roman mythology so I'm rereading The Odyssey, and I’ve started to learn to play the guitar,” she said. “And now I'm really working on it, as I sit with my kids when they are sleeping or napping. That's what I'm doing.”

Needless to say, social media definitely had their thoughts on Trump's statements. "Hey quarantined parents!@IvankaTrump  has tips for us. Suggests we read The Odyssey to our kids, learn to play a new instrument. I expect her to be footing the bill for us all so we can follow her suggestions. You effing kidding me??!!" wrote one incredulous reader. "Spending her "newly free time" rereading The Odyssey and learning how to play guitar?? Meanwhile each and every mother I know is losing her mind," wrote another. Another reader pointed out how privileged her statements were writing, "What mother of 3 young children has time for this? One who has a lot of live-in help."

This isn't the first time Trump has been criticized for what many consider to be her tone-deaf response to families who are struggling with being home. She was previously called out for tweeting her ideas about how families can plan activities while staying home together with many reminding her to check her privilege.
