Whether you choose to follow the KonMari method of tidying up or not, chances are you know who Marie Kondo is. Although Kondo has become more of a household name in the past year since her Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo premiered in January of 2019, the guru of organizing had made a name for herself long before that.
Kondo has written four books, including The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, selling over 11 million copies across 40 countries, including a new children's book aimed at encouraging kids to tidy up as well. All of that tidying up advice has been incredibly lucrative for Kondo, who boasts a net worth of $8 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Kondo's rise in popularity was slow and steady. Kondo is a best-selling author of the books The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, Spark Joy and The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up, and in 2015 was named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People. Because the Queen of Tidy is so in demand, she has now enlisted the help of KonMari Consultants for those who want Kondo's help in getting their own home organized.
Becoming a consultant isn't cheap, however. According to Yahoo! Finance, if you want to become a consultant you need to attend a seminar conducted by Kondo at a rate of approximately $2200. Once the Consultant becomes certified, they are required to pay a $500 annual membership fee.
In addition to the books and her Netflix series, Kondo teamed up with Cuyana to release a capsule collection of leather bento box-inspired cases, as well as $89 storage sets on her website last year, which quickly sold out, Good Housekeeping reports. "The guiding principle of the KonMari Method is to discover and cherish items that spark joy for you. Cuyana's philosophy of 'fewer, better' which manifests in the carefully designed and selected products made our collaboration a natural one," she said of her capsule collection.
All of this tidying up has not only encouraged people around the world to get rid of the clutter and keep only that which "sparks joy," but it's also been very good for Marie Kondo's bottom line. While Netflix has yet to announce a second season of "Tidying Up," fans are hoping to see Kondo on their small screens once again.
