There are some movies that are so iconic that nothing could ever really out-do them. Since we are approaching the holiday season, one movie that is played on repeat throughout the Christmas season is Home Alone.

The story of a young boy who gets left behind while his family goes on vacation is legendary, and there are not many people who have not sat down with their family and watched the film multiple times. However, Disney+ is planning on a reboot of the film for their streaming service.

According to Variety, the reboot will be aired on the streaming service and it is going to star Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney. The original movie, which came out in 1990, was a colossal hit and it grossed $476.6 million worldwide –it even led to them doing a sequel which also went really well.

It is easy to see why Disney would want to do a reboot, assuming that it would be just as great and that families would like to see a fresh look at the film and story. However, the original creator is not so excited and doesn’t think it is even worth it. Home Alone was directed by Chris Columbus and he is not feeling a reboot, according to People.

Chris said that when it came to the reboot, Disney did not contact him to speak about it. He told Insider in a recent interview that this film would be a “waste of time.” He said there was no point to a reboot, and in his opinion, you just don’t remake movies that are classics and have the longevity that Home Alone does. He is right about that; the movie continues to be watched and it seems like it always will as more parents grow and introduce it to their children.

Christopher then went on to add some pretty strong words to Disney, and if you had any doubt about his disinterest in a new Home Alone, you won’t anymore. He said that Disney should “do their own thing” and he added that even if they fail at it, at least they were creative. The director spoke about how the movie is an integral part of pop culture, because it connects with people on an emotional level.

It was in 2019 when Bob Iger, former Disney president, said that the streaming service would be reimagining some classics and they include Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper by the Dozen.
