We haven't had a round of Celebrity Mom Shaming in a while, so what better time to jump right back into than after a holiday, right? If a celeb mom posts a picture of her baby on the internet and ISN'T mom shamed, is she even an actual mom? People love nothing more than to assert their opinions on how other people raise their kids, and celebrities are particularly vulnerable to this kind of trolling. At this point, we can all agree that parents do what they feel is best for their kids, and leave well enough alone, right? As long as they're not hurting their kids or anyone else, it's really none of our business.
But the anonymity of the internet has given everyone this sense of entitlement, and they feel like they can shame and criticize parents for their choices. The latest mom to get shamed is Hilary Duff, who sadly is no stranger to being attacked for her parenting. Duff posted an adorable picture of herself with daughter Banks, and instead of focusing on the love between a mom and her daughter, people shamed Duff for getting her daughter's ears pierced. Ridiculous, we swear.
Honestly though, that is an adorable picture! But eagle-eyed followers noticed that Banks, who's 8-months-old now, is sporting a pair of earrings. And apparently, that's a big no-no. Some of the comments have likened piercing a baby's ears to child abuse, and plenty of people commented that they would be unfollowing Duff because of this picture. It should be noted that the American Academy of Pediatrics says ear-piercing is safe at any age as long as it's done under sanitary conditions and cared for during the healing phase. Plenty of Duff's fans came to her defense, too, saying that it's not a big deal. Because it's not!
A few years ago, people came for Hilary Duff in a major way when she posted a picture of her kissing her son Luca on the lips at Disneyland, because apparently moms can't kiss their sons past a certain age (he was like 6 at the time). And now this faux earring controversy! People just need to mind their business and let this mom (and ALL moms) live.
