We know it's still a little early to be talking about Christmas movies, but the trailer for the new animated The Grinch movie is just begging to be watched! There are a couple of film adaptations of Dr. Seuss's story of that hard-to-love green meanie who hates Christmas and all of Whoville. The original TV movie came out in 1966, and set the stage for the Grinch's shenanigans. The live-action version in 2000 did a pretty good job of bringing the Grinch to life, even if Jim Carrey's portrayal was predictably over-the-top. But this new version looks like it strikes the perfect balance for kids: the Grinch is still grouchy as ever, but a group of well-meaning little Whos foil his plans with a scheme of their own.

In the new animated version, which hits theaters this November, Benedict Cumberbatch slips his feet into the long green slippers and takes on the voice of the Grinch. The green bad guy hatches a plan to ruin Christmas for Whoville with his trusted sidekick, dog Max. The Whos are planning their big Christmas celebration, and of course, the Grinch wants to put a stop to it! But standing in his way is adorable Cindy Lou Who. Cindy hatches a plan of her own, to trap Santa so she can thank him for helping her single mom every Christmas (awwwwwwww!). Cindy and the Grinch's plans collide, with what we're sure will be hilarious consequences.

Some people might say there really was no reason for ANOTHER Grinch movie. And to those people we say, BAH HUMBUG! Listen, the Grinch is synonymous with Christmas and the holiday season. Generations of kids may not even know who he is, and that's unacceptable!

While we will always have a special place in our hearts for the original Dr. Seuss story and TV movie, we're not going to pass up the opportunity to see the Grinch again in this new animated movie. How else will we able to force our kids to sit through the 1966 version, pointing out all the ways these new movies differ from the first and best one?!

The Grinch mopes into theaters on November 9, 2018, just in time to get your holiday cheer going at full-steam.
