It looks like this girl has just taken ‘tween meltdown’ to a whole new level. While many parents strive their best to teach their children responsibility, discipline and how to respect and take care of their belongings, some kids are just not having it. As many moms and dads know, getting your child to clean up after themselves or tidy their room is a daily struggle. Well, one little girl decided to take matters into her own hands and actually called law enforcement on her parents after they demanded that she clean her room. Here’s how it went down.

According to a report by the Ontario Provincial Police Department, one 9-year-old was so upset at her parents that she decided to call the cops on them last weekend. She simply didn’t want to clean her room because apparently she had better things to do.

Law enforcement authorities responded to a call made in Simcoe, Ontario, just to find a little girl fuming at her parents for making her do the responsible thing, and that’s clean up her belongings, make her room and simply follow their instructions. Constable Ed Sanchuk wrote in his report, “She didn’t like the fact her mother told her to clean her room so she contacted authorities.”

And while a lot of people are getting a good chuckle out of this story (with so many parents saying that they can definitely relate), the officers say it’s no laughing matter. That’s because non-emergency situations like this not only wastes their time, but it can also threaten the lives of people who really need help.

Sanchuk added, “Whether false alarms are intentional or unintentional, they tie up the phone lines at the communications center, waste taxpayer money, tie up law enforcement officers and threaten lives.”

In most cases, it takes about 30 minutes for two officers to investigate a 911 call. That’s why many police officers are asking both parents and their children to think before they make a call. If it’s a non-emergency situation, try resolving matters on your own or a family. Calling 911 for small disputes not only takes the dispatcher away from taking legitimate calls, but it can also threaten the lives of people who really need assistance. Ontario’s Peel Regional Police Department says that about 60 percent of their 911 calls are actual emergencies. The department further adds that they might fine families that make unnecessary or mischief calls in the future.
