Being a new mom, you'll go to any lengths to protect your baby the best you can. For each mom that means something different, whether it be limiting contact with people, staying in and snuggling, or taking them out into the world immediately. Gabrielle Union has been very open about her struggle to become a mom. So it's no surprise that now that her little miracle baby, Kaavia James is here, she has no problem ensuring her baby girl's safety. When questioned about kissing her baby on the lips, she enlightened people that she makes sure everyone around baby Kaavia has their most up-to-date vaccinations.

For the record, Gabrielle Union had nine miscarriages before she and husband Dwayne Wade used a gestational surrogate. There is no way a momma who went through that much to even have a baby would ever do anything to jeopardize the health of her child. Understandably, when she knew that people outside of the immediate family were going to be around her newborn, she went full on momma bear and ensured that everyone had all the necessary vaccinations needed to be around such a tiny person.

Recently, Union and Wade did a sit down interview with Oprah to talk about their struggles and the road to baby Kaavia James. The interview takes place in their home, which means that members of Oprah's production team had to come in to film, etc. And being the boss babe she is, Union made sure that everyone crossing their threshold had the whooping cough vaccine. She also checked that all the crew and even queen Oprah herself had all of their most recent vaccines. No way was she ever thinking of endangering her baby girl's safety, especially when it's preventable.

Gabrielle Union choosing to kiss her beautiful baby on the lips is her choice of course. There's no doubt that she's well aware of all the health risks and if she even for a second thought that she was sick, it's safe to say she'd stay away. Vaccinations, while weirdly controversial, are an easy way to ensure that our babies will be protected from medical harm. And if a family chooses to enforce that others must be up-to-date with their shots, that is their right.

"Kaav is healthy and I don’t even touch her without washing and sanitizing myself and everything and everyone that comes into contact with her. No visits with sick folk, and even all of Oprah’s crew got whooping cough vaccinations and current on all vaccinations to be in our home," she noted in a separate comment.

Sadly, as a mom in the public eye, Gabrielle Union will likely have many of her parenting decisions questioned by complete strangers. But only she knows what's best for her adorable baby.
