A 14-year-old girl called an abuse hotline to report her parents for the filthy living conditions her and her siblings were living in. The desperate plea was received on Halloween, and authorities immediately investigated. With the help of the police, her parents are now in custody.

During Halloween, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Abuse Hotline about a 14-year-old girl who was contemplating suicide. The reason she gave were her horrible living conditions and the alleged physical and emotional abuse she was experiencing. She was reportedly being homeschooled, but in reality, she was being forced by her parents to be a full-time caregiver for her four other siblings, three dogs, a rabbit, and two chickens. Her parents justified the decision because they were working all night.

Authorities responded to the call, and they were shocked when they arrived at the girl’s house. The grass in the front yard was so tall it could hide a small child, and it was littered with so much trash. There was a plethora of different sharp, rusting metal objects in the yard that could endanger anyone walking through it. It was also covered in the feces of the chickens that the family kept. Inside the house, the conditions got even worse.

Every room in the house was covered in animal excrement, rotting food, and pests like cockroaches. The refrigerator contained no good food to eat, and most of it was rotting. The bathrooms had no running water, and the toilet paper was clearly used multiple times. Due to a lack of water, the children were bathed only once a week, and they had to travel to a nearby camp to clean themselves.

Betty Nicolicchia-Allen and Dennis Allen were arrested last Friday, and they were charged with five counts of child neglect. The children are currently under the custody of the Department of Children and Families, and they took the 14-year-old girl into protective custody since she reported her parents. Thankfully, all the children are now safe and have been removed from a traumatic environment. The case was truly something out of a Halloween nightmare.
