Who Is Farrah Abraham & How Did She Get So Famous?

Reality TV has become so popular over the last couple of decades, it's hard to get away from it--and Farrah Abraham is always all over the news. You may not watch the shows that have people looking for a spouse or competing for someone's affection, but chances are you watch at least some reality TV programming. There are new reality shows popping up all the time, but many of our old favorites are also still in rotation. Shows like MTV's Teen Mom have been on the air for nearly 10 years, and new seasons are still being cranked out.

If you're an old like us, you might even remember the show that started it all - 16 and Pregnant. That show was the basis for the ongoing series that follows teen moms and documents their struggles. Many of the stars of that original show went on to appear on Teen Mom and several of its spin-offs, but few have made as many waves (and garnered as much media attention) as Farrah Abraham. Her story on the show, her rise to fame, and her life after the show have kept the young woman in the spotlight for years, for better or worse.

Who is Farrah Abraham?

Farrah Abraham was born on May 31, 1991, and grew up in Iowa. Her parents, Michael Abraham and Debra Danielson, split when she was young. In 2009, Farrah appeared on MTV's 16 and Pregnant, a series that documented the lives of several teen moms across the country. Farrah's story immediately stood out for a couple of reasons. Unlike some of the other stars of the show, Farrah didn't have much in the way of family support; her mother reportedly called Farrah a whore and stopped her from terminating the pregnancy. Also, during filming, the father of Farrah's baby was killed in a car accident, leaving Abraham to raise daughter Sophia alone.

How did Farrah Abraham become famous?

After Farrah's episode aired, she was cast in the spin-off, Teen Mom. She appeared on the show, along with her daughter, as a main cast member for four seasons. During that time, Farrah was also working on her side hustles. She attended the Art Institute in Florida and got an associate's degree in culinary arts and management, which she used to launch a line of pasta sauces called 'Mom & Me'.

In 2012, she waded into the music industry with her debut album, My Teenage Dream Ended. It was universally panned by critics. A couple of years later, Farrah appeared on Couple's Therapy, without a partner (she worked on repairing the relationship with her mother when the man she paid to play her boyfriend backed out).

But it was her venture into less family-friendly fare that made Farrah Abraham a gossip rap staple. In 2013, she appeared in an adult film called Farrah Superstar: Backdoor Teen Mom, and also appeared in a sequel to the film in 2014. She reportedly made a million dollars after selling her sex tape to Vivid Entertainment, and used that as a spring board for other work in the sex industry; she did a residency at a strip club in Austin, Texas that reportedly earned her another half a million dollars. Her foray into the sex industry allegedly affected her employment with MTV, as the other stars of the series were uncomfortable with the inappropriate influence of a porn star and stripper appearing alongside them.

Where is Farrah Abraham now?

These days, Farrah Abraham is just your run-of-the-mill social media influencer, albeit with a more recognizable name and backstory. She makes a pretty good living doing product endorsements, modeling, other reality TV programming, and licensing deals. She's written four books, and has acted in two horror movies (not counting her adult films). She has a sizable following across social media, too.

She posts regularly on her YouTube channel, where she hosts a weekly series about her life. And she shares (or overshares, depending on your outlook) her life on Instagram, posting videos of herself getting plastic surgery, doing sponcon, and going on adventures with 10-year-old Sophia.

What Is Farrah Abraham Net Worth?

Farrah seems to be someone who does a little bit of everything. We've seen her on several different projects as we previously mentioned. She seems to hustle hard and her hard work is paying off. There isn't an exact net worth for Farrah Abraham because she's not one to shout it from her social media. According to The Squander, Farrah's father claims she has more than $1 million and her estimated net worth in 2018 sits at or around $3-6 million.
