Everything To Know About Tiger Parenting

There are a lot of different styles of parenting, and which one each parent chooses to use with their child is entirely up to them. However, one style that seems to be relatively new is called tiger parenting.

Apparently, there are certain parts of the world where this style of parenting is actually very common. But, the rest of the world was introduced to this parenting style back in 2011 when mother, lawyer, and writer Amy Chua wrote a book about it, and that was called Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother. Here are some facts about this parenting style.

10 Tiger Parents Believe That Children Do Not Self-Regulate

Most parents will probably agree with this, whether or not they take part in tiger parenting. In general, children need someone to teach them about what they should and should not do in certain situations.

Apparently, anyone who takes part in this kind of parenting does not believe that children should be left to do whatever they want to do. Instead, tiger moms and dads believe that their children should always be told what to do. Tiger parents generally believe that if a child gets to do what they want, they will do things that are not beneficial for them.

9 They Don’t Dish Out Praise Easily

In general, most parents spend a lot of time trying to make sure their child has some confidence in themselves. After all, parents always want their children to feel good about themselves.

But tiger parents are a little bit different than that. They do not easily dish out praise to their children. Instead, the child of a tiger parent usually has to work very hard to get that kind of encouragement from his or her parents. While there are other parents that hold this belief, it does seem to be common among tiger parents. They believe praise needs to be earned.

8 Other Parents Don’t Have High Enough Expectations

There are some parents who try to make sure that their children are constantly reminded of how awesome they are, and then there are some who believe that things should be done just a little bit differently.

Tiger parents think those who take part in other parenting styles are not strict enough, and they don’t have high enough expectations when it comes to their children. But being that strict is not always healthy. In fact, one study actually supports the idea that this actually has a very negative impact on children. It causes them to be more critical of themselves.

7 They Think Giving Up Is Bad

This is something many other parents seem to agree with. Tiger parents don’t approve of those who let their children give up on things.

Giving up on something is usually not a good thing to do, but unfortunately, it is easy for some people. However, those who take part in tiger parenting think that allowing a child to give up on certain things is actually one of the worst decisions a parent can make. Tiger parents think there is no better way to boost a child’s confidence than to push them to do something they didn’t think they could do.

6 They Think You Have To Be Good At Something To Have Fun

Usually, many people enjoy things that they are not necessarily good at. For most people, that is just how fun works.

When children are doing something that they consider to be fun, they are not typically worried about whether they are skilled at that activity or not. They simply spend time enjoying it. Nevertheless, tiger parents tend to believe that no one can have fun doing something unless they are good at it. They believe that children have to practice doing something in order to have fun with it. They also believe children don’t choose to work on their own.

5 Practice Is The Only Thing That Brings Success

There is an old saying that suggests that if someone spends enough time practicing something, they will eventually become perfect at it. Apparently, that is something tiger parents really take to heart, since they believe that if a child is not the best at something, they should spend hours every day working on it until they are very good at it.

Though some people believe that achieving perfection at something is not necessarily possible no matter how hard one practices, tiger parents don’t feel that way. They also believe that a child’s achievements are a strong reflection on their parents.

4 Tiger Parents Think Extreme Honesty Is Best

Honesty is always the best policy, no matter what the situation is, and it is important for children to learn that early in their lives. However, there are some parents to take this to a bit of an extreme, and this is where tiger parents come in.

They tend be very open and honest with their children, and that is great. But at the same time, tiger mothers and fathers also say a few things that other parents might take the wrong way. For example, some things tiger parents say to their kids might sound like they are mocking them.

3 They Feel That Being Strict Is A Way To Demonstrate Love

One mistake many people make is expecting everyone else to be like them. Everyone is different, and that’s okay. Since each person seems to be different from the next one, everyone appears to display their feelings towards others in different ways. The same is true for parents, which is probably why there are so many different parenting styles.

There are a lot of people who tend to judge tiger parents. But the truth is that they just show their love for their children differently than some other moms and dads do. They what they think is best for their kids.

2 Tiger Parenting Does Not Always Equal Success

If there is one thing tiger parents want their children to be, it is successful. The reason why tiger moms and dads are as strict as they are is that they usually believe that everything they do will ensure that their child leads a very successful and fulfilling life.

But there is actually proof that this kind of parenting does not always work like some people think it does. As a matter of fact, children who are raised by tiger parents do not always have the best grades, and they are more likely to show a few symptoms of depression.

1 Tiger Moms Spend A Great Deal Of Time With Their Little Ones

While there are some negative things associated with tiger parenting, that does not mean that these parents don’t spend a lot of quality time with their children. In fact, if there is anything positive that can come out of a tiger mom’s strict parenting style, it is the amount of time her children get to share with her.

Tiger parents want to make sure that their children are good at everything they do. That can be strict with the child, but it also ensures that they spend a lot of time with their parents, which is usually a good thing.
