It’s very hard to equate celebrities with truly being “real,” since their lives so often look nothing like those of regular men and women. But Drew Barrymore is embracing her successes, failures, and pop culture identity – warts and all – in order to break down the barriers between fame and relatability. The vehicle? A new talk show. The inspiration for that sincerity? Her children.

A press conference helped launch The Drew Barrymore Show into the spotlight. The talk show joins daytime television beginning with guest appearances from Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, Adam Sandler, and other big names. The actress is a mother to two girls, 7-year-old Frankie and 6-year-old Olive. And for her daughters, she wants the program to showcase exactly who she is, including any rough edges.

"One thing we want to say on this show is I am who you think I am," she explained to reporters. "I struggle, I fail and I think one of the most important things I want to teach my own kids and myself as I grow with them is that change is so important -- change in the world, change in yourself. I am a self-examiner and I've never pretended to be anyone I'm not."

As Barrymore explained to People, she is ready to put her full personality of contradictions and interests on display. "I am not one person, I am not one mood, I am not one thing, I am such a mixed bag myself," she said. "I want a show that represents all of the different things that we are interested in." To that end, Barrymore will include segments such as "Designed by Drew" and "Drew's News" to tackle human interest and newsworthy features. Along the way, she hopes to share insight into what she’s learned as a mom and as an actress with many years in the limelight.

Her candor has begun already as she noted how she will never (“N-E-V-E-R”!) marry again. The actress has put three separate marriages behind her. The talk show and this phase of her life are coming together at just the right time for Barrymore to truly be herself. "I get to do things that I care about," she said. "I get to have conversations that are meaningful and grounded in reality. I get to bring comedy and humor."

And though the show carries her name, Drew is outspoken in her hopes it will be recognized as a group effort. "I've never felt more humble and grateful in my entire life than I do right now…to be amongst this crew and this team and getting this opportunity." she said. To be able to launch a creative project in 2020 is a blessing, she adds, "I appreciate every job I have. I know what it's like to lose and work for things and be so lucky and have the opportunities that I have and everything in between."
