There's Officially A Live-Action Dora The Explorer Movie In The Works

Dora the Explorer

Wow, kid movies are going to be spectacular for the next couple of years! Disney is coming out with some amazing live-action movies like The Lion King, Dumbo, and Sadéwhich you read about here a couple of weeks ago. There's also another Grinch movie in the works, which looks absolutely adorable. And now, we're bringing you the news that Dora the Explorer will be coming to the big screen in her own live-action adventure. For little fans of Dora, Boots, Diego, and of course, Backpack, this new movie will bring their favorite explorer to life and probably make all of their dreams come true.

17-year-old actress Isabela Moner will play Dora, but the movie will be a bit different than the popular cartoon. Dora will still be going on adventures and solving puzzles, but she's a bit more grown-up in the live-action version. The movie will center on Dora in high school, as she navigates those new and sometimes difficult waters.

Of course, it wouldn't be Dora the Explorer without her sidekicks, right? She'll be joined by Boots the monkey, and her cousin Diego will also be by her side, played by Micke Moreno. It also looks like we have a potential foe in snotty class president Sammy, played by Madeleine Madden. While the subject matter may not be what young fans of the cartoon are used to (we're guessing Dora won't be spending a lot of time in the jungle in the live-action version), for older fans who've been around since Dora hit the small screen, it'll feel a lot like growing up with the whole gang.

Dora the Explorer started production a few days ago, and is being shot entirely on Australia's Gold Coast. We'll have to wait a bit to catch the gang onscreen, as it's not scheduled for release until August 2, 2019. But we've waited this long to see Dora come alive on the big screen, so what's another year, right? We can't wait to see what they do with this movie, and we have to wonder how much Swiper will be swiping when Dora is in chemistry class!
