There are some moments when a mom may reflect and think about what her life would be like if she never made the decision to become a mom. Celebrities who have made the choice not to have children usually open up about why they have made that decision. Dolly Parton is one of them. According to People, Dolly Parton has said that her choice to not have children is why she has been so successful.
Dolly is about to turn 75 in January, and she was reflecting on her career when she appeared on The Oprah Conversation on Apple TV+. She said that not having children with her husband, Carl Dean, was what allowed her the freedom and focus to complete her work. She said that her husband is really independent, so she was always “free” to work. She said she made “sacrifices” for her work, and it looks like it paid off.
With all of that being said, this doesn’t mean that Dolly doesn’t have a heart for all the little children of the world. She said that she thinks there was a true reason why she never had children. She believes that God did not give her children so that everyone else’s children could be hers. This means that she has had the time to work on other projects that could help children all around the world. She said that this freedom is what allowed her start projects like her Imagination Library.
According to its official website, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library launched in 1995 and it helps to get books out to children all across the US. The program is so successful that it is available in Canada, the UK, Ireland and Australia. She really feels that she was successful in these programs because she never had children.
She also spoke about how she feels about aging, and while she did not say that the reason she looked so young was because she doesn’t have children, we are all guessing it played a part. Dolly has been an icon in the world of country music for decades now, and she shows no signs of slowing down or stopping.
