Kamala Harris is the first Black woman and first Asian/Indian American to run for vice president. She hails from a background of a South Indian mother from Tamil Nadu, and a Jamaican father. She was raised by her mother (and sister) after the age of 7, as her parents split up.

Professionally, Kamala has been popular and well established with many titles: District Attorney of San Francisco, Attorney General, US Senate, and even ran for the the US Presidential election and ended her campaign in December 2019. With news of Senator Kamala Harris running for Vice President with Joe Biden's office, we definitely want to learn more about her.

Kamala has no children of her own. However, she is the stepmom to two beautiful children from her marriage with her supportive husband, Douglas Emhoff. She has a beautiful relationship with Emhoff's son, Cole and daughter, Ella, who affectionately nicknamed Kamala as "momala".

Coming from a family of divorced parents, Kamala wanted to tread carefully before she met Douglas' children. As told to Elle in 2019, she says "I didn’t want to insert myself into their lives as a temporary fixture because I didn’t want to disappoint them. There’s nothing worse than disappointing a child." She goes on to say that she and Douglas took their relationship slow and they thought it out extensively before meeting his children.

Kamala goes on to express how nervous she was before meeting Cole and Ella. However, she was welcomed with open arms by Douglas' two children. She writes for Elle saying, "Cole and Ella could not have been more welcoming. They are brilliant, talented, funny kids who have grown to be remarkable adults. I was already hooked on Doug, but I believe it was Cole and Ella who reeled me in." She even gets along with Cole's and Ella's mother, Kerstin; they go for swim meets and basketball games to cheer on Ella.

According to Town and Country, Cole is a graduate of Colarado College and Ella is studying at Parsons School of Design for a Fine Arts course. She even shares some of her design and art work on her Instagram page.

Kamala values family time, explaining that Sundays are for family dinners. The four of them - Kamala, Douglas, Cole, and Ella, come together around a table and have organically fallen into their respective roles for dinner prep. Cole sets the table along with choosing the music for the night, Ella is in charge of desserts (and seeing her design skills, we can only imagine how beautiful they would look and taste!), Douglas acts as Kamala's sous-chef, and Kamala cooks.

Cole and Ella are very understanding of Kamala's professional life and the sacrifices it comes with. She missed Ella's high school graduation as it was on the same day that "FBI Director James Comey was asked to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee about his firing and the Russia investigation." Kamala writes on Elle. She called and explained the conflict to Ella, and she goes on to say that Ella could not have been more understanding. Nevertheless, Kamala felt awful for missing her step-daughter's big day, as would any mother.
