All that is heard in the news and media right now is the importance of wearing a face mask. We are all trying to stop the spread of COVID-19, and there is a large debate over whether people should be mandated to wear a mask or not. The conversation gets a little more heated when children are involved, and children are not being exempt from the face mask rule. Children over a certain age are also expected to wear a face covering when they are in public places, and they may also need to wear them when (and if) schools reopen in the fall.
One of the biggest reasons that moms don’t want to wear masks is because they believe that it restricts their breathing. They cannot breath as well in the mask, therefore, that are not getting in enough oxygen. If they feel this way about themselves, they are likely worried that their children will not be getting enough oxygen in. This is a scary thought for a mom.
It doesn’t seem to matter how many times it is explained that face masks do not impede your ability to breathe, moms know how they feel with a mask on and they don't want the same for their child. Luckily, there are people out there who are debunking these myths so that we can all feel better and know that we are breathing just fine with the mask on.
A doctor in Ireland went viral after he shared a video on social media showing that masks do not affect the amount of oxygen that he is taking in. His name is Dr. Maitiu O Tuathail, and he posted a video on his Twitter page of him putting on a face mask. Not only did he put on a face mask, he put on 6 face masks, all on top of each other.
The trick was that he was hooked up to a machine that was testing his oxygen levels. Even after he had put on the 6th and last mask, his oxygen levels were not affected at all. The masks had absolutely no effect on his oxygen levels. He told Business Insider that it does not matter how long you wear the mask for either; your oxygen levels will not change.
