Disney Is Developing A Brand New Live-Action Fairy Tale About An African Princess

Disney is really banking on these live-action movies lately, and we are here for it! We had Beauty and the Beast, the new Winnie the Pooh and Mary Poppins movies coming soon, plus the much-hyped live-action Lion King. There's also Dumbo (which looks so good!), Mulan, and Aladdin are in the works. Plus, there are so many more rumored live-action Disney movies, like The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, Snow White, and Pinocchio, among others! Maybe they're realizing that they can attract kids AND adults to these adaptations, and their newest movie is sure to be a winner in all demographics.

The studio has confirmed that they will be making a live-action Disney Princess movie, about an African princess named Sadé. The movie of the same name will be the first original live-action movie from the studio (meaning, not based on a previously released animated or live-action film).

The movie will tell the story of Sadé, a young African girl who discovers she has magical powers and uses them to protect her kingdom from a mysterious evil force. She'll be joined by a princely sidekick. Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer pitched the idea to Disney, and will reportedly co-write the script, and director Rick Famuyiwa will produce the movie. The film is in very early development, and as of now, doesn't have a director or any stars attached. But we cannot wait to see what they come up with! It sounds like an amazing story, and Disney is known for bringing magic to life on screen.

If you just can't wait for your live-action Disney fix, don't worry! There's plenty in the pipeline. Christopher Robin comes out on August 3, 2018, and Mary Poppins Returns flies into theaters on December 19, 2018. 2019 will bring us so much joy, we can already tell. Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King all come out next year, and the hype is going to be almost too much to handle! We love us some Disney movies, live-action and animated, and knowing so many good ones are coming makes the wait well-worth it! Which live-action Disney movie are you most excited for?
