Back in late spring/early summer, some serious drama began for former Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans. Basically, she accused her husband, David Eason of fatally shooting her dog Nugget. The French bulldog allegedly bit the couples toddler daughter. The whole story created a gale force storm for Evans, including temporarily losing custody of her children and being fired from the show. And then the police claimed she lied about the whole thing. Well, David Eason just admitted that he did in fact shoot the dog. And we're shook.

“It was a situation where my daughter, her health, her safety was in danger,” Eason tells PEOPLE. From the beginning, he has maintained that he was only acting in his daughter's best interests. "When a dog bites a child on the face more than one time, then it should never be around the child again,” he says. When Evans first reported Eason to the police, she claimed that in a fit of rage he took the dog out to the woods and shot it. And it sounds like that may actually be true.

Of course that doesn't mean the choice was easy. “This was something that nobody wants to ever have to do," he says. But at the end of the day, he claims that Nugget "was aggressive." So in his mind, killing the dog was the only solution he had. “If you call the authorities at that point, the law says the dog has to be euthanized. I’m not going to pay anyone to euthanize my dog when I could do it myself," he explains.

“If you give the dog up for adoption, one day it’s going to be around children again," Eason claims. But dogs can be rehomed in places with no children. But just because he killed the family dog allegedly doesn't mean he hated it. “I mean, I loved that dog,” he said, apparently appearing to cry. “I still think about her every day."

And even though she called the cops after he did it, Evans is trying to defend her husband. “His father taught him, ‘Don’t let any animal hurt you’ … and he just thought what he was doing was best,” she claims, adding that this is apart of his "country lifestyle."

So there we have it. Davod Eason killed Nugget, but claims it was for her own protection. Looks like the Columbus County Sheriff's office got it wrong. After doing an investigation, they closed the case, accusing Evans of lying. “The evidence collected indicates that the allegations of animal cruelty were fabricated," they said in a statement. Jenelle maintained that she wasn't lying pretty much the entire time. No word on if they'll issue an apology now that Eason has confessed.
