If you have kids that love to watch YouTube, and especially if you have kids who are gamers, you are no doubt mesmerized and possibly a little confused about the fact that your kid probably likes to watch videos of other people playing video games. YouTube personalities like PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, elrubiusOMG, and Fernanfloo have some of the most popular YouTube channels for gamers with hundreds of millions of subscribers between them. DanTDM is also a hugely popular YouTube personality known for creating videos about the video game Minecraft. Dan is pretty popular with gamers of all ages, but he's known for appealing to his younger fan base. Here's everything you need to know about DanTDM.
Who Is DanTDM?
If you've seen your kids watching Minecraft videos on YouTube, chances are they have been watching DanTDM. What Kind Of Videos Does DanTDM Post?
Dan began posting videos about the hugely popular game Minecraft, but as his popularity has grown he's expanded into posting about other games such as Roblox and Tomodachi Life on his channel, as well as Fortnite Battle Royale and even some indie games. He even creates mini-films with original characters that he will post as well. “Minecraft came along, and it’s a perfect way to tell stories through video, and then YouTube came along too... and it just went crazy,” Middleton told TODAY in an interview in 2017 about his growing popularity. “People just loved my videos, my characters.
Dan created an offshoot channel titled MoreTDM where he posted non-gamer videos and general vlogs, but he hasn't posted on that channel in more than 2 years.
Is DanTDM OK For Kids To Watch?
Parents can be understandably worried about constantly monitoring the content their kids are watching on YouTube, but DanTDM takes his job as a role model very seriously and knows that parents trust him to post videos that are appropriate for all ages.
“Keeping it clean is important to me because I’m just aware of my audience,” Middleton told TODAY. “My audience is a younger generation and, just in general, I wouldn’t want to show my mom a video of me swearing like crazy. It’s good clean fun.”
He also told the BBC that he feels "loads" of responsibility to parents to ensure he's making age-appropriate content. "I feel like I've got a really good rapport with parents," he said. "They always say I'm a YouTuber they can feel safe just letting their kids watch."
Dan told TODAY that he often meets many parents who are just as big of fans as their kids are. "When we do the meet-and-greets, there’s a lot of parents who get their pictures with me too,” Middleton said. “They say they appreciate that I keep it clean... and that they know their children are safe online when it can be very easy not to be.”
Another thing that parents seem to love about Dan is that he creates and edits all the content for his channel himself and that he truly seems to enjoy what he does. “I just think it’s so important to have fun because if you’re having fun, then your viewers will have fun too. I think I really have, hopefully, this good energy where it’s like hanging out with your best friend every day.”
All About DanTDM's Family
Dan is close to his younger brother, who it's been said is the person who actually introduced Dan to Minecraft. Dan has been married to his high school sweetheart, fellow gamer Jemma Millward-Middleton since March 17, 2013. Jemma appears alongside Dan in many of his videos, and the couple shares a love of dogs, specifically pugs!
While the couple has been pet parents to their two pugs for years, they're about to become actual parents in just a few short months. Dan recently announced that he and Jemma will be welcoming their first child, a boy, in the new year.
What Is DanTDM's Net Worth?
Dan has definitely created one of the most popular channels on YouTube, and with that comes a pretty hefty paycheck. According to Business Insider, Dan earned a whopping $US18.5 million in 2018. That's $1,487.74 per minute of YouTube video posted.
Forbes states that Dan is the 4th highest-earning YouTube star of 2018, thanks to his ever-growing list of subscribers, merchandise sales and tour tickets.
Some may think gaming on YouTube is a waste of time, but DanTDM not only shows incredible work ethic with his almost daily uploads, but he's also a great role model for kids, so parents can feel comfortable when their children tune into his channel.
