It is always nice when we see children who are in the foster care system get adopted by a loving family. It is even more sweet when a group of siblings can get adopted together so what they do not have to be separated. There are a lot of children in the foster care system right now, and unfortunately, as a child ages their likelihood of getting adopted gets lower and lower. Everyone wants to adopt a baby, and that is why our hearts are touched even more when older children are adopted.
Good Morning America reported a very touching story about two dads who were looking for a family of their own. Steve Anderson-McLean and Rob Anderson-McLean are from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and they are now parents to six brothers and sisters that they decided to adopt. They are now the official parents of Carlos, 14, Guadalupe, 13, Maria, 12, Selena, 10, Nasa, 9, and Max, 7.
When they were in the process of adopting the children, they were asked one very important question by the judge. The judge wanted to make sure that the couple understood that moving forward, these were their children. The judge stated that they are just as much their children as if they were biological. The two dads understood this very well and when the adoption was made official, there was a lot of emotion in the room.
The pair have been together for 18 years, and they were able to officially and legally get married in 2013. These are not the first children for the pair either, they have already raised two boys together, who are now 25 and 21 from a previous marriage. They realized as their children grew up that they just were not done being parents yet and wanted to look into adoption.
The couple were inspired by a similar story of a family who adopted siblings because they did not want to separate them and wanted to do the same. After looking all over the US for children who needed to be adopted, they found the six children on a website in the state of Ohio. These children, who had been in foster care for almost 5 years, now had a forever home and more importantly, they were all together.
