Common Sense Media is a San Francisco-based non-profit organization that provides education and advocacy to families to promote safe technology and media for children. Every year the organization reveals their Common Sense Media Awards for the best quality shows that parents can enjoy with their children without having to worry about questionable storylines, scripts, or material. In other words, these shows are not only age-appropriate, but they also promote family values, are educational or inspirational for kids. Out of the 235 television shows that are currently available for kids, only 42 made the cut.

"We've reached a golden age for quality content in TV for children of all ages," said Polly Conway, senior TV editor at Common Sense, in a statement released to the press. "Today's programming brings strong role models and timely topics that are great as jumping-off points for important, timely discussions among families."

Luckily, there’s something for everyone on the list from reality-based shows, superheroes, and animated shows that feature strong female leads. With that being said, Common Sense Media has chosen the best family-friendly programs and television series that make their cut. Luckily, many of the shows that met their criteria are available on subscription streaming apps such as Netflix or Hulu. Without further ado, here’s the 2018 list of winners:
