Halloween at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa Bay, Florida is all 'treat,' and no 'trick' this year, as they treated their young patients to a Halloween celebration that was sure to brighten their spirits.

Being hospitalized is an incredibly difficult situation for children to be in, but many were especially bummed at the fact that they were missing out on the cherished fun and festive Halloween. Due to the pandemic, the situation became even more complex for these youngsters receiving medical care.

The doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's decided to take matters into their own hands, and step up in a big way to ensure their special patients were able to enjoy Halloween during their stay at the hospital, making their situation much easier and less daunting.

They created a reverse trick-or-treating experience and brought Halloween right to the children who so greatly deserve to enjoy some fun and get into the spirit! This incredible idea was the perfect dose of Halloween magic, creating a more hopeful outlook for the path ahead.

The staff at the hospital provided a wide selection of costumes for each child to choose, and helped them get dressed up for the occasion. Kids were able to transform into the character of their choice, as dozens of options were presented to lift their spirits. During a time that they are receiving medical care, this went a long way in brightening their day and getting their little minds off of the seriousness of some of the issues they are facing.

“Being able to celebrate Halloween while in the hospital brings about some normalcy, which is truly important for our patients and their families,” said St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Child Life Supervisor Hadley Trull.

Of course, Halloween is as much about the costumes as it is about the candy! The staff at the hospital was so dedicated to ensuring the happiness of their young patients that they reversed the concept of trick-or-treating by taking a selection of sweets into every room. By doing so, they provided the children with the ability to get some Halloween candy right from the comfort of their hospital beds.

The fun didn't stop there! Newsbreak reports that the kids were also given special access to a "virtual Halloween-themed Bingo activity, which was sponsored by Rooms-to-Go Foundation."

Seeing the smiles on the faces of these children demonstrated the true effect that a little normalcy and celebration can have on their spirits, and subsequently, on their road to recovery.
