A recent study has found that children who come from a home with same-sex parents are doing better in school. There are a lot of misconceptions in the world about children in the home of same-sex parents, and studies are being done to show that none of them are true. Children who are in a loving home, regardless of who their parents are, are faring just fine. This is also true when it comes to school performance, studies are being done to show that they are not only doing just fine, but they are excelling.

According to Slice, a study was recently done at the University of Queensland in Australia and it showed that children who come from same-sex parents were doing better in school when it came to three key areas.

The study, which was published in Duke University Press, researchers looked at Dutch children of same-sex parents and they found that they performed 13% better on standardized tests, and they were more likely to graduate from high school. When they looked further, they also found that they were also more likely to seek out University education. This information may just be a step closer to erasing some of the hurdles that same-sex parents face when it comes to parenting and adopting children.

According to American Psychological Association, children of same-sex parents face challenges, but not a lot of work has been done to see just what these challenges are, and if they actually are “challenges.”

There has been worry that children in lesbian families would “miss out” on a male role model when compared to children who had a mother and father raising them. However, when studies were done, there was no differences found between children who were raised by parents of the same gender or opposite.

While there was no solid evidence as to why children of same-sex parents are doing better in school, experts have some theories as to why this is. Experts believe that because same-sex parents face more hurdles when it comes to parenting, they put in more “effort,” therefore, it strengthens their commitment to parenting. They also theorize that since same-sex couples face difficulties in conceiving children, whether it through adoption, surrogacy, or IVF, they are more mindful and intentional when it comes to their parenting.

The study also found that same-sex parents had high levels of education compared to others. This is just one more study to show everyone that these children will be OK.
