There’s nothing worse than having one of your child’s most beloved stuffed animal friends suffer a devastating injury, like a lost limb or torn ear. Parents of children who love their stuffy know that they often travel everywhere with their children, and provide a source of comfort and care that no other toy can. We all know those parents who buy multiple versions of a favorite stuffed animal so they always have a backup in case it gets lost, or worse, damaged or destroyed.

While there are many places that can be found online that can do stuffed animal repair, including Build a Bear’s Bear Hospital, the Children's Museum of Manhattan is set to offer a unique program geared at kids that will cultivate their artistic side by allowing them the opportunity to repair their favorite stuffed animal themselves. Working with their Art, Artists & You program, which encourages children to explore the creative process, kids will now be taught how to sew so they can work on repairing their beloved stuffed animal as a part of the Children’s Stuffed Animal Repair Program. Which means that not only are kids getting the opportunity to fix a stuffed animal who may have seen better days, but they’re learning basic sewing, which really is important life skill.

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is offering the program from Tuesday, July 31 to Sunday, August 5 and will teach your kids basic sewing techniques like stitching and stuffing and even provide practice areas before taking the needle and thread to their stuffed best friend.

The best part is the program is free, so all you have to pay for is the cost of admission to the museum. For any parent who has wanted to get their children out a bit more this summer, this sounds like the perfect event. Children love to explore their artistic side and giving them the opportunity to be hands on in repairing one of their favorite stuffed animals — from choosing the thread to any fabric that may be needed for the repair — is enough to warm even the coldest of hearts.

If you’re in the area next week you should definitely check out the Stuffed Animal Repair Program and let your kids stitch up their stuffy.
