A new survey has found that many people believe that they have inherited their snacking habits from their mom and dad. As a mother, we know that we are a large influence in our child’s life. Not only do our children inherit our hair and eye color, but they can also inherit our behaviors. Our children are always watching us, and they can pick up a lot of our habits, both good and bad. However, surveys and studies are constantly being done to see just how much influence parents have, and it turns out that we may be influencing our snack habits on to our children.

Whether this is “good” or “bad” will depend on what your family likes to snack on. According to Study Finds, a survey of 2,000 Americans has found that grown children believe that they “inherited” their sweet tooth from their parents.

The survey was conducted by OnePoll on behalf of California Prunes and 53% of participants believe that they have the same snacking habits as their parents, that is more than half. They also said that food played a large part in their upbringing and three in five said that their snacking habit was directly tied to their cultural living.

The survey also wanted to find out how big a role food played in growing up:

•35% of participants said that holiday feasts were the most loved while growing up

•34% said that they serve the same foods when they throw a holiday party or dinner

•They also said that sitting down to eat a holiday dinner with loved ones was a tradition that they still cherish and remember fondly

Food really does play a large part in everyone’s lives and a lot of core memories are linked to meals and specific foods.

When it comes to the snacks that are most well-loved, 37% said cookies, 32% said chips, and 32% said popcorn. It also looks like this is a generational pattern that will continue because 41% of the participants said that they are going to continue to the food traditions that they have with their children.

However, while food and snacks may be good, they can have negative effects. Seven out of ten participants acknowledged that their snacking schedule was not healthy, and half of the participants said that they are snacking more because they have not set consistent meal times. Whatsmore, 59% said that if they had snacks in their homes, they would not be able to resist them.
