Despite nationwide recommendations that people do not have large gatherings over the Thanksgiving weekend due to spiking numbers of coronavirus cases, some celebrities didn't get the memo. Celebrities like Cardi B. and Rita Ora have since taken to social media to publicly apologize for posting pictures of their large weekend gatherings despite public health guidelines warning against it.

Cardi B. was heavily criticized by fans and followers after posting videos of her large Thanksgiving gathering on social media. She then tweeted, "12kids and 25 adults over the holidays. It was lit !!" causing even more backlash from many of her fans.

After the singer was called out for ignoring the advice of health officials she took to social media to apologize. "Sorry my bad wasn’t trying to make nobody feel bad.I just had my family in my home for the first time and it felt so good & uplifted me .I spent soo much money getting every1 tested but it felt worth it.I wasnt trying to offend no1," she tweeted.

She then went on to explain the rigorous testing process she undergoes weekly, emphasizing that everyone at her gathering was tested beforehand. "ME specially and everyone that works around me get tested literally 4 times a week. Im In the middle of work and Everytime we clock in we MUST GET TESTED !" she wrote.

Fans still weren't impressed and reminded the singer that the most responsible way to prevent the spread of the virus is to limit in-person gatherings indoors. Singer Rita Ora also took to social media to apologize after she hosted a party at Casa Cruz in Notting Hill to celebrate her 30th birthday. “I attended a small gathering with some friends to celebrate my 30th birthday. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown and this would be OK...I'm deeply sorry for breaking the rules and in turn understand that this puts people at risk. This was a serious and inexcusable error of judgment. Given the restrictions, I realize how irresponsible these actions were and I take full responsibility,” read a statement posted to her Instagram stories.

The Daily Mail reported that Ora agreed to voluntarily pay a £10,000 Covid fine for violating stay-at-home orders.

While both women have publicly apologized it seems that Cardi B. was fed up with the backlash she received tweeting, "People be trying tooo hard to be offended.I wonder how they survive the real world."

Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci told ABC's This Week on Sunday that Americans should prepare for a "surge upon surge" of coronavirus cases as Christmas approaches. "We have to be careful now because there is almost certainly going to be an uptick because of what has happened with the travel," Fauci explained of the increased travel leading up to Thanksgiving. "We likely will have an increase in cases as we get into the colder weeks of winter and as we approach the Christmas season," he added.
