Now that the holiday season is in full swing, for many of us, that means lots of baking. Sometimes we delude ourselves into thinking that baking with our little ones will be anything but messy and mildly stressful, but we do it anyway. And one of the best parts of baking, especially if you're baking holiday cookies, is eating a little bit of the raw dough. Come on, admit it, there are few things better about baking cookies than eating the raw dough. It's like the tastiest round of Russian roulette ever. Well, the party poopers at the CDC are here to remind us that you know, eating raw cookie dough isn't very advisable.

But it tastes so yummy! Yes, yes it does. That's the problem. We know how good raw cookie dough tastes, but it contains several ingredients that are considered raw. We're always warned that eating raw eggs will give us Salmonella, and it can. However, we are not warned quite as much about flour, which is just as dangerous as eggs. According to the CDC, flour in its unbaked state is raw. Therefore, it's not equipped to fight bacteria like E. coli, which we know, can make us feel really sick.

Given the fact that there have been so many food recalls lately, it's understandable that the CDC wants to remind us that eating raw cookie dough isn't the best decision. Eggs don't have as long of a shelf life as something like flour, so it's easy to know about recalls. But there was a flour recall in 2016 that made 63 people sick. And there was a Duncan Hines cake mix recall earlier this year with tainted flour.

No doubt, the idea of quitting eating raw cookie dough is hard. Because if you're going to be violently ill from something you ate, this is a tasty way to go. Much better than something like a salad. When baking cookies, it's important to make sure you're cleaning up after. Wipe up any flour and eggs and thoroughly wash all bowls and utensils used. Look, if you still do it, no one is going to judge you. A quick little bite likely won't kill you, but don't get greedy.
