Leap Day, February 29, a date that usually occurs every four years, is added to the calendar because the Earth does not orbit the sun in exactly 365 days. To celebrate this year’s Leap Day, Build-A-Bear is offering special deals on Friday and Saturday, February 28 and 29.

For children celebrating a birthday on February 29, they will eligible for a Birthday Treat Bear for just $2.29 with proof of age at the Build-A-Bear Workshop. Meanwhile, on Friday and Saturday only, all Build-A-Bears are 29% off, with no exceptions. So, whether it’s your birthday or not, a visit to Build-A-Bear this weekend is a must for fans of the brand’s customizable stuffed animals.

The Birthday Treat Bear is usually a “pay-your-age” animal that customers can purchase during their birthday month for the dollar amount equal to their age, up to a maximum of $14, which is the bear’s regular price. As an example, parents can purchase a bear for their 4-year-old by paying just $4 during the child’s birthday month yet leap year babies can buy the bear for just $2.29 on February 29, regardless of their age.

The extra 29% off on February 28 and February 29 is a great way to get that plushie you’ve had your eye on. Build-A-Bear offers a fantastic selection of collectible plushies from films such as How To Train Your Dragon, Pokémon, Sonic The Hedgehog, Star Wars, Frozen, Lion King and Wizard of Oz, as well as, sports-themed plushies from the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL.

Unfortunately, if you’re looking for the Baby Yoda plushie, it’s not yet available. An officially licensed plushie inspired by The Mandalorian, The Child, aka Baby Yoda, is due out this spring, although fans can sign up for email updates to be among the first to know when Baby Yoda is available for purchase at a Build-A-Bear Workshop.

“We will be one of the first companies to be able to provide the new digital and internet phenomenon—who is actually trending higher than all the presidential candidates combined—if any of you have seen The Mandalorian," said Sharon Price John, president and CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop.

Build-A-Bear, a global brand with more than 20 years of customized plushie making experience, has created over 160 million stuffed toys. Currently, Build-A-Bear Workshop has over 400 stores worldwide, including stores in the United States, Canada, China, Denmark, Ireland, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom.

Build-A-Bear takes pride in providing customers with a unique destination experience, where guests can spend time customizing their stuffed toys. The appeal of the brand has actually helped the company negotiate more favorable lease terms for its retail locations, 70 percent of which are up for renewal over the next three years, according to Chief Financial Officer Voin Todorovic.

The company recently launched Sensory-Friendly Tuesdays nationwide during which the brand dedicates the first hour of the day after the store opens on the first Tuesday of each month to children with special needs. The events, designed for children with autism and other sensory processing needs and their families, feature softer lighting, little or no ambient music and a step-by-step informational guide for parents and caregivers.

Those who are new to the Build-A-Bear Workshop experience can expect to be greeted by a BEAR BUILDER® associate who will walk customers through seven simple steps:
