Britney Spears recently lost her bid to have her father, Jamie Spears removed as her conservator but fans may have lost even more. Britney recently headed back to court in an attempt to suspend her father's role as her conservator, something he has held for the last 12 years. Unfortunately, since the judge declined to remove the elder Spears from that role, Britney's lawyer is saying that she may not perform again.

During the hearing earlier this week, Samuel D. Ingham III, Britney's lawyer, warned that as long as Jamie Spears continues as his daughter's conservator she will no longer perform. “My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father. She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career,” Rolling Stone reported.

Ingham, who said that the pop star hasn't spoken to her father in a long time, is a “high-functioning conservatee,” and deserves notice of the actions her father is taking, according to the AP. James Spears’ attorney, Vivian Lee Thoreen reportedly blamed that lack of communication on Ingham.

While the singer's request to have her father removed as conservator was denied, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny did appoint the financial company Bessemer Trust as a co-conservator. Rolling Stone writes that Britney felt that her father had been "mismanaging the singer’s money over the past year, including a $300,000 payment to her previous business management team."

Britney's mother, Lynne Spears, seems to have sided with her daughter over her ex-husband on the matter. “It has broken Lynne’s heart to watch that this has come to this point. … Lynne believes the time is now to start fresh given the circumstance of Britney’s request,” said Lynne's lawyer, Gladstone Jones, according to US Weekly. Jones also said that when Lynne spoke to her former husband last year about their daughter, he referred to the pop star as “a racehorse who has to be handled like one.”

Fans have rallied behind the pop star, starting the #FreeBritney movement that has been dismissed by her father as ridiculous. While the judge refused to remove Jamie Spears as his daughter's conservator at this time, she did say that it is something that can be discussed  “down the road.”

For her part Spears recently took to Instagram, assuring her fans she's the "happiest she's ever been in her life."
