Congratulations are in order for Bindi Irwin! The wildlife conservationist celebrated her 21st birthday by getting engaged to her boyfriend of six years, Chandler Powell. Bindi, the daughter of the late conservationist and television personality Steve Irwin and wife Terri, announced her happy news on social media today, on her 21st birthday.
"On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life," she wrote. "Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. I’m so looking forwarding to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love. — Now let’s get married already!"
Irwin posted two sweet photos of the long-time couple together, proudly showing off the sparkler on her left hand.
Powell is just as excited to be engaged to the love of his life. The former professional wakeboarder told PEOPLE magazine that their engagement was “the most perfect and beautiful day of my life.”
"After Bindi’s birthday celebration at Australia Zoo, we had a photo shoot organized to celebrate her turning 21,” he reveals. “Just before we started the shoot, I took her to a special part of Australia Zoo to ask the girl of my dreams to become my wife. These past five years together have been the best of my life and we look forward to a lifetime of magical moments to come."

She said YES! ❤️💍 Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo. I immediately fell head over heels for her kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light. Proposing in her very favorite place in the zoo, surrounded by animals, seemed like the perfect way to embark on this incredible new chapter in our lives. Bee, I love you more than anything in this world and I always will. Happy Birthday.
Bindi's mother Terri also shared her joy at her daughter's happy news, posting about the engagement on Twitter and noting that her late husband would be thrilled about his daughter's engagement. "Best day ever! Chandler asked and beautiful @BindiIrwin said yes. I am so very happy, and I know Steve would be too. Congratulations!!" she wrote.
The couple first met in 2013 when Powell, an American who was in Australia for a wakeboarding competition, visited The Australia Zoo. Bindi just happened to be leading the tour that day, and they've been together ever since. Bindi told Stellar Magazine that Powell is her "always" and always felt that their relationship was very similar to that her parents had. "He’s so kind and solid and always there for me. I think it’s really rare to find that so early in life. My mum and dad always described their marriage as feeling like a special pair of old shoes — knowing you can always depend on someone. I know it’s the same with Chandler," she said.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
