There are some celebrities that are so famous, so talented, and so larger-than-life that they only need one name to be instantly recognized the world over. Madonna. Prince. Elvis. And of course, Beyonce. Since the days of Destiny's Child, Beyonce Knowles has dominated the music scene, and her solo career catapulted her into the stratosphere of music icons. Her marriage to rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z cemented their status as hip-hop royalty. Beyonce has also branched out into other areas, including film and fashion, and we're constantly on the edge of our seats to see where this incredibly talented artist takes us next.

But, her professional accomplishments aside, Beyonce is also a mom, just like us. She's notoriously private when it comes to her family and personal life, and doesn't share much about her children. So how many kids does Beyonce have?

Blue Ivy Carter, 8

Blue Ivy is the oldest daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z. She was born on January 7, 2012, so she's nearing her 9th birthday! The birth of Blue Ivy was quite the media event - the reigning King and Queen of Hip-Hop was about to welcome the heir to the throne into the world, and fans eagerly awaited details about her arrival. After her birth at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, media outlets named her the most famous baby in the world!

As the first born, it's no surprise that Blue Ivy has blazed her own trail in the footsteps of her famous parents. Not long after Blue Ivy was born, Beyonce and Jay-Z started obtaining trademarks in her name for various products, from books to video games. She regularly attends basketball games and red carpet events with her parents, and even sang back-up on her mom's song, "Brown Skin Girl". In 2020, she was awarded the BET HER Award, as well as awards from the Soul Train Music Academy and the NAACP Image Awards.

Rumi and Sir Carter, 3

Blue Ivy may be living her best life as big sis in the Knowles-Carter family. But she's not the only little one running around! On June 17, 2013, Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed twins Rumi and Sir Carter. Their pregnancy was announced in February of that year, in a gorgeous Instagram post that broke the internet. Their arrival was announced in an equally gorgeous post a month after they were born. Beyonce and Jay-Z kept details about the babies and their lives as a family of five very tightly under wraps, and the world didn't get a glimpse of the twins for a full year after they were born. Whereas Blue Ivy is a fixture at many of the events her parents attend, the twins have been kept largely out of the public eye.

In August 2018, in a profile for Vogue magazine, Beyonce opened up about her pregnancy and the twins' delivery. She told the magazine she'd been on bedrest for about a month leading up to their birth, and they were born via emergency c-section because toxemia endangered her health and the health of the babies. The twins spent several weeks in the NICU before being released. In February 2019, grandma Tina Knowles opened up about the twins' personalities, saying that Rumi will rule the world while Sir is much more laid back.
