As parents, it is our job to make sure that we are giving our children the best quality products, whether that be food, toys, or skincare. That's why parents will spend time looking over ingredients lists for products, because they want to make sure that their babies are getting the best possible products. This is especially true of things like skincare products; since babies' skin absorbs the product, we want to make sure that the products we're putting on their skin aren't going to do any long term damage. That's why it's disheartening when companies aren't living up to the promises made. Popular skincare company Babyganics is involved in a class action suit for that exact reason.

The class action suit, which was filed by consumers from New York and California in 2016 alleges that Babyganics was deceitful in their branding. Based on the name alone, parents are being led to believe that the ingredients in the line, which include things like lotions, sunscreen and wipes are going to be natural and organic. Certain synthetic ingredients in skincare can be bad for babies' sensitive skin, and even though the company claims to be using "natural" ingredients, that may not be true.

On the Babyganics website's question section, they have the question, "Are your ingredients and formulas certified organic?" The short answer to that question is no. In the long version of the answer, they claim that the ingredients they use they use meet company standards for quality, and in some cases, yes, they do use certified organic ingredients. But they're also using select synthetics and preservatives to ensure that the product's formula is also meeting their quality standards.

So, you can see where things get a little awkward. Because if the company is using the word "ganics" in their name, you're going to go out on a limb and assume they're organic. Why else would they use the name?

So, where does that leave you as a consumer? Well, if you purchased any of the Babyganics products on this list (there are over 200 products listed) between September 7th 2010 and June 26th 2018, then you are a part of the settlement. If you'd like to file a claim (the only way to get a financial payout) then you can visit the settlement website for the claim form.

It must be filed by October 29th 2018. If you want to exclude yourself from the settlement, which would still allow you to be a part of any additional lawsuits regarding this case, then you have to submit that filing by October 10th 2018. If you do nothing, then you will not receive any cash payout if the settlement is approved. All the additional information you need can be found here.

Currently, Babyganics is denying the claims, but we'll see what happens once the claims are filed.
