Mom Shares Hack For Clingy Baby Who Won't Sleep Without Her

If there is one challenge that most parents share at home, it’s trying to get their newborn or toddler to sleep throughout the night. More often than not, our children expect us to sleep beside them until they fall asleep. As cute and cuddly as it might seem at first, it can easily turn into a nightly headache for many parents. Luckily, one mom came up with a genius parenting hack that makes your child think that you are sleeping next to them. Here’s how she did it.

Mom Melissa Dykstra admits that her child was going through quite a “clingy” phase, which made it hard for her to do everyday tasks at home. As a matter of fact, she couldn’t even go to the bathroom on her own, let alone take a nap without her child wanting to be by her side 24 hours a day.

Now, no one wants to “trick” their child into thinking that they are sleeping next to them when in fact they are actually on the couch binge watching Hulu with a glass of wine and popcorn. But at the same time, no parent should be expected to have their child Velcro themselves next to them for all hours of the day. That’s why Melissa came up with a hack to help solve her child’s needy issue. She simply blew up a regular rubber glove like a balloon and rested it on her baby’s stomach while he napped. This allowed Melissa to “break away” so to speak so she can get other things done around the house.

Parenting level 100 unlocked. #genius

“It gave me enough time to finish my coffee while it was still hot,” she said to News.com.au.

Melissa shared her parenting hack with her friends on Facebook and by the time she knew it, her hack had gone viral on social media. She even took a photo of her sleeping back and sent it to the Baby Hints and Tips page on Facebook. She captioned her pic with, “Going on 20 minutes now and she hasn’t realized. She will crack it when she wakes up, but for now I actually get to finish my coffee!! #babyhack.”

Now, that’s not to say that every baby will fall asleep with a rubber glove next to them. Some tots still do prefer the real thing! But for Melissa and her baby, they are both definitely not complaining.
