We think it's safe to say that the last year can be called "the year of Baby Shark." It's like the gift that kept on giving...or not. It depends on how you feel about the now iconic song. If you were hoping to have all those "doo, doo, doo, doo" notes finally out of your mind, it's time to think again. They started with You Tube and quickly moved on to clothing and toys and now, a television show on Nickelodeon.
At least we never have to worry about scrolling through Youtube to find the video, right?
Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon Animation's executive vice-president shared in a statement that, “’Baby Shark’ has captured the imagination of millions of fans around the world, so it’s no surprise it’s one of the top 10 most-viewed videos on YouTube ever,” Ramsey Naito, executive vice president of Nickelodeon Animation, said in a statement. “At the heart of any popular piece of content is a terrific character, and we have a great opportunity to further explore the world of Baby Shark and follow this family through some great animated adventures on Nickelodeon.”
The show has greatly evolved over time and it's really surprising that is actually took this long for the show to make it from just video to television.
It first launched back in 2015, solely on Youtube, from the South Korean children's educational company, Pink Fong. As we all know, it was pretty much an instant sensation. In the time since it first launched, the video has garnered over 2.9 billion views on Youtube alone. Additionally, the popular tune lead to a popular dance challenge that saw more than 700,000 covers of the song performed online, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
At this point, there isn't a lot of information about the new series, just that it's about to be coming our way soon. However, Deadline reported that the creators of the song, Pink Fong, will be playing a role in the creation of the new series, to make sure that brand continuity exists with the new show.
And if you were concerned about all of the Baby Shark products that will be released in conjunction with the new series, we can assure you there will be plenty. Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products will manage all consumer products licensing for the show worldwide, excluding Asia. So your kids will be able to have everything Baby Shark to go along with the new show.
Just in case you needed a heads up: now would be a great time to get some ear plugs!
