Audrey Roloff's Health Scare Serves As An Important Warning To Moms

audrey roloff

By all accounts, Audrey Roloff seems like one healthy lady. The former barre fitness instructor regularly blogged about exercise, health, and over-all well-being. Since becoming a mom to daughter Ember, she continues to practice what she preached, albeit in different ways, like spending a ton of time outdoors, taking walks with hubby Jeremy Roloff, and embracing life in general. So when the reality star began feeling really run down, there was cause for concern.

On her Instagram Stories, Audrey expressed worry over feeling just plain rotten. While a new mom could chalk it up to the exhaustion one experiences when caring for an infant, she thankfully listened to her body, asserting that something was definitely wrong.

The past week I’ve been feeling so rundown and have been experiencing a lot of abdominal pain. I thought it was just from stress of working on the edits for our book, getting ready to travel out of town for a work trip, and Ember waking up in the night to nurse (which has been happening for the past 3 weeks.. teething 🤷🏼‍♀️). But apparently that’s not all. 🤦🏼‍♀️ From being an injury prone athlete my whole life, I’ve acquired a keen sense for when something is off in my body. Yesterday I finally decided to go to the dreaded urgent care. They wanted to test me for strep and pregnancy but I was convinced neither were the case. I asked if I could maybe be Mono (I had watched my best friend fight mono in college and my symptoms were so similar). He said that they typically see Mono in teenagers and college students... But they tested me to be sure. When he came back in with the results he said, “Well, I think you’re the first breastfeeding mom I’ve ever seen test POSITIVE for Mono...” Like seriously?! I’m not going around making out with people and sharing drinks 🤔 Oh and then he follows up with this super practical and attainable advice...”Just try to rest as much as you can for the next 4-8 weeks” ......👈🏻🤣LOL. MOMS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET MONO🙅🏼‍♀️ Praying I don’t pass it to Ember or Jeremy and that it passes over me quickly🙏🏻 At least I have the cutest baby girl ever to cheer me up☺️I mean look at that face on the 4th photo?! 😭 #emberjean #alwaysmore #alwaysmoremilk @shopalwaysmore

The Portland-area resident explained that she had not only been feeling exceptionally tired, but also experienced a great deal of abdominal pain. Initially attributing the symptoms to stress, Audrey's condition only got worse so she headed to urgent care. It was there that she received a diagnosis that surprised even her doctor.

At first the medical staff went through the motions of testing Audrey for more common ailments like strep throat, but her own instinct was that she had developed something far worse. She was convinced it was mono.

Unconvinced but willing to administer a test for mono, the doctor was shocked when the results came back positive.

"When he came back in with the results he said, 'Well, I think you're the first breastfeeding mom I've ever seen test POSITIVE for Mono...,'" she recalls.

Proof that we should all listen to our bodies and gut instincts, Audrey's diagnosis is a wake-up call for moms regarding their health. While the Little People, Big World star admits it's going to be next to impossible to get those four to eight weeks of rest her doctor prescribed in order to fully recover from mono, at least she was able to pinpoint exactly what is going on with her health.

She also mentioned that moms should never, ever be allowed to get mono, and we are so with her on that. Then again, when does anyone have a free eight weeks to rest? No one we know!

Audrey and Jeremy are currently putting the finishing touches on their upcoming book, which shares intimate details about their relationship and how they make their marriage work. Fans will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at both the good and the bad and the couple couldn't be more excited to finish it.
