Although he says that he has no say in choosing his successor on Jeopardy, Alex Trebek thinks that Betty White would be his best successor. Speaking in an interview with TVLine at the TCA winter press tour, Trebek said that the decision about his successor is with the people in charge despite hosting Jeopardy for over three decades. However, the 79-year-old TV legend has someone in mind, Betty White! Yes, he says Betty White is his choice.

Trebek who has been battling pancreatic cancer that is currently in stage 4 shocked his fans when he disclosed that when the time comes, he would not participate in selecting his successor. While speaking at ABC's "What Is Jeopardy" show, Trebek previewed his parting speech saying that he will tell people not to ask him who was going to replace him because he had no say in it whatsoever. He added that if the fans give Jeopardy the same love, respect, and attention they have given him for over 30 years, the show would continue being a success.

According to the TVLine, Trebek can have a say in the selection of his successor but he feels that it is not his duty to get into the discussion. He says that the decision is not up to him and he will not avail himself to present an opinion. He added that he would leave it to the people in charge to decide. He revealed this to the TVLine after the TCA panel with the Jeopardy's Greatest of All Time.

Harry Friedman the Jeopardy executive producer said that Trebek has no interest in the process of selecting his successor. He added that Trebek has said several times that the decision is not up to him. However, Friedman said that they would welcome Trebek's suggestion. Although Trebek does not want to be part of the decision, he still has his dream pick.

He says that whenever people asked him whom he wants to see taking his place, he says that it would be great if it were to be a woman. He told the TVLine that the woman has to be bright and should have a good sense of humor and that woman would be Betty White! Trebek's choice is not a bad one after all because Betty White is the only person who is more experienced in the game show.
