June "Mama June" Shannon is the matriarch of the Shannon family; you might know her better as Honey Boo-Boo's mom. Since the infamous Toddlers & Tiaras star hollered her way to a lot of dollars in her Here Comes Honey Boo Boo spin-off in 2012, little Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson has started to move away from the limelight. Her mother, however, has continued to make headlines after her own spin-off, Mama June: From Not to Hot, aired in 2017.

Since From Not to Hot hit the small screens, Mama June has had her fair share of bad publicity. She started dating her partner — and partner-in-crime — Edward Eugene "Geno" Doak, in 2016. Geno has a lengthy rap sheet; he's been a regular in the big house since 1996. Last year, Mama June joined him in his felonious ways for the first time.

March 2019: Mama June Is Arrested For Drug Possession

Geno caused a disturbance at a gas station in Alabama, when he allegedly threatened to kill June. Upon the arrival of the police, both June and Geno were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, after Geno admitted to police that he had a needle on him. Geno was also arrested for third-degree domestic violence. The drug was suspected to be crack cocaine, which was later confirmed by court records; the paraphernalia in question was a pipe. Geno was court-ordered to keep away from June, but less than a week later, the two were spotted together at a casino.

Shortly before Mama June's arrest, her sister, niece, and four daughters held an intervention during season 3 of Mama June: From Not to Hot. During the intervention, Alana told her mom that she was moving out of their home and moving in with one of her three older sisters, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon, because she no longer felt safe living with her mom. The girls believe that a major reason June has been spiraling is because of her relationship with Geno. They pleaded with her to go to rehab for her addiction; sources say that her home was littered with needles. Her drug use has also led June to sell her home for a loss at $100,000, and selling whatever she could online. June eventually conceded and allowed her family to check her into a treatment facility in North Carolina, but 12 hours later, she checked herself out. The gas station dispute between June and Geno occurred only two days later.

September 2019: Indictment Day

In early September last year, the Macon County Grand Jury charged June E. Shannon with both a felony — possession of a controlled substance — and a misdemeanor — possession of paraphernalia. Doak was also charged with a felony and misdemeanor. Despite the arrest, it's unclear if he was indicted with domestic violence charges.

October 2019: Mama June And Boyfriend Plead Not Guilty

More than six months after the initial arrest, the pair's attorney submitted a not guilty plea to the Macon County, Alabama courts on behalf of June and Geno during their arraignment in October. Video footage from their court date shows Geno exiting an SUV shouting expletives at journalists outside the courthouse, while June trails behind him in a hoodie and sunglasses. The same video shows the pair leaving the courthouse, and Geno shouts, "Not guilty! Not guilty! They owe us a million dollars!" Turns out, that's just wishful thinking on his part, since they won't know if they'll be found guilty, until later this year. There's also a 99.9% chance the county courthouse is not going to give them a million dollars.

May 2020: Here Comes Mama June's Trial Date

If Mama June and Geno are convicted, they both face up to a year in jail. Regardless of the outcome, hopefully mandatory rehabilitation is required for Mama June, at least for her daughters' sake. Given June's history of prioritizing men over her daughters, it seems unlikely that she would go to rehab willingly, as long as, she is in a relationship with Geno unless it's court-mandated.

From Mama June To Just June

Currently, all of June's daughters are estranged. The older three already didn't live with her, and Alana has been living with Pumpkin since the intervention. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was originally cancelled, during its fourth season, because June was dating a registered sex offender — Mark McDaniel — in 2014. They rekindled that relationship after McDaniel was convicted of molesting a child. The child in question was one of June's own daughters, who was, then, only eight-years-old. June wasn't willing to disassociate herself from the abuser of her daughter in 2014, and she wasn't willing to disassociate herself from her own abuser after her run-in with the law. Hopefully she has a change of heart sooner than later.
