CW: mentions of abuse. Disney World is known as the happiest place on Earth. Whenever you mentally prepare yourself (because let's be real - it's necessary) to take your family to this magical place, you definitely only see the good in people from the second you set foot in each park until the second you leave. It's a powerful place where memories are truly made.
So again, when we picture this place that is surely coated with a layer of pixie dust, we don't imagine that there are grown men walking around trying to grope Disney princesses - but this just happened and an arrest was made.
Recently, 51-year-old Brian Sherman was visiting Magic Kingdom with his wife when they stopped at a meet-and-greet location for one of the park’s princesses. It has been reported that the couple stopped at one of those photo opp places to get a picture with his "favorite" princess. Sherman and his wife posed with her, one on each side of her, essentially trapping her in the photo. The woman dresses as the princess told the police that she was "physically stuck" in between them
And apparently, he got "very excited." And things took a turn for the worst from there.
The woman shared with the police that Sherman threw his arm around her (which you aren't allowed to do that with princesses at Disney World). He allegedly “repeated how much he loved” her, and then moved his hand lower until it was touching her bra.
She felt “immediately uncomfortable,” and thankfully another employee took note of the situation. During an attempt to move the couple along, Sherman allegedly “cupped the victim’s right breast with his right forefinger and thumb with only the thin skin-tight fabric in between her breast” and his hand. The woman said he “cupped and lifted” her breast for around four seconds, then moved his arm back around her shoulders for more photos.
It just keeps getting worse and worse. The poor woman was left “shaking and crying.”
So how did they catch this man? This is where we say thank goodness for Disney Photopass! Since they were at a meet and greet, there was a photographer snapping photos and that was how they were able to catch what happened on film, according to Buzzfeed.
Following the situation, the meet-and-greet was immediately closed, and the photos were turned over to police to help them identify Sherman. He was then arrested in the park later on that day and charged with battery. However, he has already bonded out of jail.
Police are hopeful that he will be prosecuted, especially after they found out that he is a convicted sex offender who was found guilty of sexual battery of a victim younger than 12 in 1991. Ew.
A spokesperson for Disney World said the incident is now in police hands, but added, “Everyone should feel safe at work, and we encourage Cast Members to come forward in any uncomfortable situation.”
