It's that time of year again, folks. Halloween just wrapped up and it's time to see who the winners and losers of the scariest (and funniest) night of the year were. With a world filled with memes, online personalities, and celebrities aplenty — the options were endless for Halloween 2k18. While some people opted for the thrilling route, many others went for trendy pop culture references.
After seeing one trending moment, many tried to replicate it for Halloween. (And can I just say, they did a heck of a job.) Does a couple poke fun at Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson? Or does a person opt to be their favorite Netflix character? The pressure can be quite domineering for something this epic to happen just once a year.
Through the highs and lows of 2018 thus far, these 30 families found a way to light up everyone's life for just one night. The best part about these 30 are most of them are handmade. Who needs to spend a load of cash at the costume store when we can create the same costume for less? Now, not everyone's costume was a home run, but there are just some people who totally get it. These are the people we'll try to replicate for next Halloween season.
30 Gotta Catch 'Em All!
Dressing as the Pokemon crew is probably the smartest idea when you have a large family. After all, there are over 800 Pokemon in that world! Heck, an entire neighborhood could make a pact to dress as all the characters in the poké-world and still have room to breathe. Nevertheless, this adorable family deserves a ton of credit.
The adorable mom is pregnant and turned her belly into a Poké Ball which is making me feel all kinds of emotions.
It's adorable and I need to see what this family continues to do for Halloween year after year.
29 Monsters Inc.
You don't need to be a country music fan to know that singer/songwriter Thomas Rhett has an enchanting family. With a gorgeous wife and two little girls (Willa Gray and Ada James), this family of four is almost too cute to look at.
For Halloween this year, the foursome dressed as everyone's favorite Monster's Inc characters.
Thomas is Sulley, Lauren is Mike's girlfriend Celia Mae, Ada is Mike Wazowski, and Willa is baby Boo!
It doesn't get more perfect than that; especially since the kids were not into having their picture taken — classic!
It's so insane to think that The Simpsons have been on TV for the past 28 years! Considering many of us were born in the late '80s/early '90s, we've quite literally grown up with these yellow characters. It's also funny to note that these parents probably grew up watching the show and now their children are doing the same exact thing. I doubt they would have thought that was going to happen when they had kids. Nevertheless, dressing as this iconic family was a great idea. I mean, aren't the Simpsons supposed to be the "average" family anyway?
27 'Jurassic Park'
What better way to celebrate an amazing film franchise than by dressing up as its main stars with your child!
These two probably dressed as Dr. Grant and Elle Sattler, while their baby dressed as a Malcom (leather jacket included). Cue the cuteness! The outfits are pretty similar and who can turn away a baby attached to an entire scene of Jurassic Park! This mom and dad could even say "Trick or treat" to neighbors and collect candy for their baby, but run home and eat it themselves. Now that's a Halloween I think most parents would be down for!
26 Happy Holidays
There are so many costumes families can choose from when trying to think of a group ensemble. Just like Pokemon, there are a ton of famous duos or groups that many people are fans of. Just think of Toy Story!
But this precious family took the upscale, classy route and went as a martini.
Well, their sweet baby went as an olive while her parents went as the martini drinkers and shakers, but you get the picture. And while this threesome is adorable, let's give whoever made this martini glass a hand. It's immaculate.
25 A Stormi Butterfly
Considering this is Stormi's first Halloween, Kardashian-Jenner fans around the globe were dying to see what Kylie and Travis would dress her up as. I'm not sure what other fans were expecting, but it shouldn't be a surprise that the adorable mom/daughter duo dressed as butterflies. The butterfly was a huge symbol for the couple when Kylie was carrying. In fact, many people thought Kylie would name her baby butterfly or a more scientific name for one! Nevertheless, these two looked adorable. Those wings are massive!
24 Winnie-The-Pooh And Fam
This amazing stay-at-home mom takes great care of her two adorable children, with a third on the way, and manages her own business all on her own. Plus, she worked tirelessly on these super cute costumes and we are all here for it. Check out her Instagram.
Winnie-the-Pooh is such a beloved classic. Even though the first story was written in the '20s and the cartoon came out in the 1960s, this little bear and friends from 100 Acre Woods have stolen our hearts. Each character is so relatable as they take you on their adventures. It's the perfect idea for a Halloween costume for a young family. Like many other young families, this momma is pregnant and makes an adorable Pooh Bear. And just look at her jar of honey! But let's be real, her sweet child dressed as Tigger makes this a well-rounded costume.
23 The Michelin Man
Who would have thought that the mascot for a tire company would be such a hit? Well, I'm sure that was the company's aim, but I don't think they ever thought people loved it enough to dress as it for Halloween!
The youngest tyke in the photo is the Michelin man himself, while his backup of talented mechanics are his lovely family.
I doubt this foursome took the tires with them while trick-or-treating, but I think those handy tools they're carrying did the trick.
22 Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice!
Beetlejuice is a classic movie from the late '80s that people either love or hate; there's really no "in-between" stage with this film. Starring Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Geena Davis as Barbara, and Alec Baldwin as Adam — this movie took on the sites of the "other side." And as we can see from the family above, they totally went all in when it comes to dressing the part. It also happens to be the perfect storm since their daughter looks just like Winona Ryder's Lydia! The fact that they have an all black dog also goes well with their spooky aesthetic.
21 Follow The Yellow Brick Road!
You gotta love families that commit to the costume. Group costumes only do well come Halloween when everyone is into it — and this family totally is. Not only are this mom's red heels updated to an adorable pair of Hunter boots, but their little lion is playing along by holding Toto! While The Wizard of Oz is extremely popular (even with it being made in 1939) and many families pull the theme off every year, this family definitely does it with style.
20 Eat Your Spinach!
It's amazing to me to still see Popeye costumes in 2018! The iconic cartoon took off in the 1920s through the Sunday paper's comic strip and later to the cartoon many of us are familiar with. Mom and dad dressed as Popeye and Olive, while their little one went as spinach.
As the Popeye site points out, Popeye's love for spinach made the public love spinach, too.
"The spinach industry credits Segar and Popeye with increasing the United States consumption of spinach by 33%!"
19 Woodland Creatures
It's actually great to see a group of woodland creatures that actually look like the creatures they're dressing as. As many adults are all too familiar with, there are many youngins' who "claim" to be a mouse ("I'm a mouse, duh") but are just wearing mouse ears and some kind of leotard that has zero association to a mouse at all. This family, however, gets it. The parents are a fox and a skunk, while their little cuties are an owl, a deer, and a raccoon.
18 They're Incredible
The 2004 Disney cartoon, The Incredibles, really are incredible. The fab family of five are essentially superheroes who try to tame their powers in public. After living a pretty bland life, their father decided to get back into the superhero game. And as we can see from the photo above, so did this amazing family! Funny enough, the caption is what makes this family even more likable.
The woman says how the stretchy costume was not made with 6'4 men in mind, and her kids fought for two weeks about which one would be the one-and-only-Violet. Talk about relatable!
17 Peter Pan
Peter Pan is such a beloved character that his story has been reworked multiple times (and been seen from different angles). The story of Peter was created in the early 1900s, with the Walt Disney cartoon coming out in the '50s.
And yet, here we are, still obsessing over this adorable man-child who doesn't want to grow up. I think his story is something most adults relate to.
Plus, its characters are fun to dress as: the dad seen here is Captain Hook, mom is Peter, and their mini-me is the ever so popular Tinker Bell.
16 Rain, Rain Go Away
I never thought about going as a weather forecast before, but this sweet family is changing my mind. Not only was this a unique idea, but it's super easy to recreate.
Just imagine how much fun that little girl had creating her own rainbow.
And I don't know about you, but I can seriously picture those raincloud umbrellas being hung inside an elementary classroom. I really hope one of these parents is a teacher with an obsession with crafting, because those babies need to be shown off. And... wait a minute... do my eyes deceive me or is their tiniest child the ray of sunshine every storm needs?!
15 Most-Used Emojis
This family is a bunch of geniuses. We've seen individuals dress as emojis before, but seeing an entire family of emojis? Adorable! I think the little pizza-girl is the most adorable part of the photo, but it's hilarious to see mom and dad choose their favorite emojis to dress as. The mom looks just like the salsa dancer! I, for one, would love to run into this family on the street while trick or treating. If this is how hard they go for Halloween, I can only imagine how serious they take Christmas.
14 Little Red Riding Hood
If you're going trick-or-treating as this classic tale with your kids, and you don't have a family dog, then you might as well dress one of your kids as the wolf, right?
Since this family is bigger than the three main characters (Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf, and her grandmother), they added another wolf to the mix, a mom with home baked cookies, and a lumberjack so that everyone could feel included. I do think it's safe to say, though, that the dad in the family totally pulled off grandmother's look.
13 Here We Go!
Mario Kart is one of the my favorite games of all time. Okay, so it's the only game I'll ever really play because I grew up with it, but it's still a classic! Pictured, we have mom and dad as Luigi and Princess Peach. Then from left to right we have Princes Rosalina, Mario, Princess Daisy, and their dog is the ever so fluffy hand controller! Sometimes I forget there are more characters in this world than the favorites (Bowser, Peach, and the famous duo — Mario and Luigi), so adding Daisy and Rosalina to the mix was a solid move.
12 Poppin' With Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins gets a lot of hype and it deserves it all. With Julie Andrews starring as the children's nanny, Mary Poppins, and Dick Van Dyke playing Bert (a chimney sweeper), people knew this movie would be iconic. I mean, it was awarded four Oscars the year it came out and nominated for 12! So seeing people dress as the dear old characters is truly something special.
And with FIVE babies, there's only so many affordable costumes you can do — so dressing them as the dancing penguins was an adorable move.
11 Pretty Little Unicorns
Like the Legends, the Kardashian-Jenners were also the talk of the town on Halloween night. It appears many of the sisters dressed in different costumes leading up to the big night, but Khloe?
Khloe was apparently relaxing with baby True at home. The precious duo dressed as unicorns in matching onesies.
But to be honest, Khloe could have dressed as a stalk of broccoli and she'd still be beautiful. And as for True, well, look at her. She's too precious to even talk about! She's lovable regardless of what she's dressed in.
10 Who You Gonna Call... Ghostbusters!
I'm just gonna say it, I adore this family and I don't even know them. Ghostbusters came out in the early '80s, with a third one recently created in 2016 with females in the primary roles instead of men. While the 2016 movie received a bit of criticism, I actually found the movie hilarious — but that's beside the point.
Let's admire this family's dedication to hunting ghosts! With those two lovable faces alone, they'll be sure to snatch up those ghosts who also go by the names "mom" and "dad."
9 I'm Late!
Jillian Harris, the host of HGTV's Love it or List it: Vancouver absolutely knocked the ball out of the park with this one. She even got professional photos taken of the whole family to make the story really come to life!
With her dressed as Alice, her husband dressed as the rabbit, and her son dressed as The Hatter, these three look like they're ready for Broadway. They even have a dog who was dressed as The Queen of Hearts!
If this is how this family does their Halloween pictures, I can't wait to see their winter holiday ones!
8 Ice Ice Baby
The best part about this costume is the parents actually got it made for their little girl (whose name is on the box; Juliet). "A friend picked up Juliet's costume from Winners in August, knowing Juliet's obsession with ice cream," the proud parent explained.
Likewise, mom and dad dressed as ice cream carriers while little Juliet was an ice cream cone herself.
Now, if that's not dedication to a favorite treat, I don't know what is. It's not every day someone creates a costume to this level.
7 Bob Ross
Bob Ross is such a fascinating celebrity personality. An artist, Ross created The Joy of Painting, a PBS show that taught you how to create his own masterpieces. His soft spoken voice and early '80s afro really made Bob the star that he was destined to become. Now in 2018, he's kind of making a comeback in the form of memes, which is why dressing as him for Halloween is such a success.
The family above totally thought this one through with the dad going as Bob, and his wife and baby going as his painted scenery. A+, family. A+ indeed.
6 Napoleon Dynamite
Just when I think the people have forgotten about Napoleon Dynamite, I was gifted this masterpiece of a family. At first, I thought this funny fam were acting as a bunch of tourists but that's when I realized this mom's side ponytail: she was Deb from Napoleon Dynamite, with their baby as Napoleon himself and dad as Kip. Even the fact that "Deb" has all her suitcases with her makes her win the entire holiday. They could have even made their baby Kip (or maybe the lama?) but they made him the star of the show instead, which was clever.
5 Avocado Toast, Please!
Anyone who has a Trader Joe's around them knows how obsessed with it people can be. I don't know what it is about this grocery store, but their generic brand (or their home brand) of foods and beverages is oftentimes more delicious than the more well-known brands.
Considering her love for (most likely) her favorite grocer, this mom went as Trader Joe's sesame seasoning, with her mini me going as an avocado.
If anyone wanted to join this duo on Halloween night, all they had to dress as was a piece of bread. Then the perfect avocado toast would be made.
4 Boom Baby!
I don't know what it is about Emperor's New Groove, but it's one of those movies that never seems to get old. There are awesome one-liners and a whole lot of sass, which makes it the perfect movie to replicate for Halloween!
I think the best part about this family is the fact that their child is in an amazing contraption that makes it look just like Yzma's carrier.
This is definitely what I like to call commitment to character. Just give them all the candy and say nothing.
3 Home Slice
You could say this little angel is just a slice from her mother or you could say she's a play on words for "home slice." But let's be real, it doesn't really matter; this duo is adorable. There's nothing people love more than cute kids, pizza, and candy — and this mother checked off all three! I can just imagine how much extra candy this little hunny got going door-to-door. The best part about the costume, though, is that everyone can pull it off — not just mother and child.
2 Missing Slipper
I think everyone wanted to know what John and Chrissy were going as for Halloween this year. With baby Miles' first Halloween, people couldn't wait to see what they would dress him as!
However, it appears Halloween was focused on Luna and John this year, because the twosome went as a princess and a prince.
I think it's safe to say that any time we see this awesome couple together with their kids, it makes everyone's hearts warm. We can't get enough of this filter-free family!
1 Tall Frappucino
There's nothing cuter to me than matching costumes between parent and child.
While most little girls probably beg to be a princess of some kind, why not get dressed in a fluffy tutu and go as your favorite drink from Starbucks?
This little girl is the cutest Frappuchino I've ever seen, and I love the fact that her mom is her own personal barista. I wonder what kind of Frappuchino she wanted to taste like? I'd definitely give this party-of-two extra candy if they came to my door.
