Chrissy Teigen may be a celebrity with countless fans and millions of followers on social media, but she’s also a mom of two, and an exceptionally relatable one at that. Since welcoming her first child into the world in 2016, Teigen has opened up about her journey into motherhood, and how it’s often far from glamorous.

Although she loves her children, and she tried for many years to become a mom, enduring fertility treatments and a lot of planning and preparation, she also knows sleepless nights and exhaustion mean less passion (even if her husband is an R&B crooner). There are many things parenting has taught her, including a few unexpected things; now, when she hears a baby crying on the plane, she doesn’t feel frustrated, she feels an odd sense of comfort and begins to miss her own daughter. And she also gets real about the things no one really wants to talk about -- let’s just say her kid was not the only one going home in diapers.

We’ve learned a lot from Teigen, whether it’s in interviews or on social media, and her willingness to be so real has endeared her to a lot of moms. Below are 20 times she was honest about being a mom.

20 Sometimes Even When You Think You’re Ready To Be A Parent, You Question It

Chrissy Teigen knew she wanted to be a mom, but she struggled to fall pregnant and had to go for fertility treatments for a long time before this was possible. And yet, despite all their planning and preparation, when it came time to get pregnant she felt hesitant.

Teigen told The Cut,

"I think it kind of doesn’t matter whether you do all that preparation or whether it’s a surprise. You still wonder if you’re ready. But then you hear from enough people that you’re never really ready, and you just go for it."

To sum up her comments, no matter how much preparation you put into becoming a mom, there are always unexpected elements.

19 Yes, Moms Do Become Numb To The Sound Of Crying

Before you become a mother the sound of a baby screaming and crying is troubling (or annoying) and you want to tend to their every need. But after hearing your child cry thousands of times, you almost become numb to the sound.

This is what Chrissy Teigen revealed during an interview with People. She said, “I think I’m becoming numb to the sound of crying now. The first time she cried, I was like, ‘Oh, what do we do? Everyone can hear us!’ And now I’m just like, ‘Hm, hm, hm’… I live right through it.”

18 Postpartum Depression Can Happen To Anyone -- Even When You Think It Won’t

After the birth of her first child, a daughter named Luna, Chrissy Teigen found she was unhappy, even when she didn’t feel she had a reason to be.

She learned she was struggling with postpartum depression, and she has been vocal in sharing her journey because she, like so many moms, believed it could never happen to her.

She told her story to Glamour, saying, “I had everything I needed to be happy. And yet, for much of the last year, I felt unhappy. What basically everyone around me—but me—knew up until December was this: I have postpartum depression. ‘How can I feel this way when everything is so great?’ I also just didn’t think it could happen to me.”

17 Not Only Babies Come Home Wearing Diapers

Knowing your body was able to carry a little life inside it is a wonderful thing, but giving birth is not the most glamorous moment in a woman’s life. And it doesn't end after delivery because there are many changes the body goes through in the following days and weeks. Diapers after childbirth are not always necessary, but it’s one of the things people don’t tell you can happen, that does happen. Luckily, we have Chrissy Teigen to remind us of this, and she did so with a tweet.

She wrote, “no one told me I would be coming home in diapers too.” Hilarious, yes, but also educational.

16 Falling Asleep With A Breastpump Happens To The Best Of Us

Motherhood may be a beautiful and rewarding journey, but no one ever said it was easy. New moms are often completely exhausted, and when Chrissy Teigen was pumping milk she realized it was easier to fall asleep than she had thought. She took to Twitter to get real about what she had just experienced, writing, “Fell asleep with my breastpump on and I think I'm in a different dimension now.”

But her comments are super relatable because it’s actually very easy to fall asleep with a breastpump on, and according to Romper, in addition to moms being exhausted, breastfeeding and pumping release the hormones prolactin and oxytocin, the latter of which makes a mom feel more relaxed and calm.

15 The Truth Is Breastfeeding Is A Lot Of Work

Breastfeeding seems so simple and straightforward before you actually have to do it, because the truth is, breastfeeding is tough.

It’s a lot of work, and the feeding schedule can be crazy, as Chrissy Teigen reminded us all when she gave an interview to Entertainment Tonight.

“The feeding schedule surprised me a lot," she explained. “If you kind of do the math, you're kind of breastfeeding for 10 hours a day total. It's very loving and sweet, but it's not easy. It's hard to work your entire day around getting her the nourishment she needs because they are just little animals."

14 There Are Times When Your Precious Toddler Is Really Mean

Being a mom is not always a wonderful thing, because there will be times when, no matter how much you do for your little one, they can just be really, really mean. Chrissy Teigen learned this while raising her first child, Luna, and she decided to take to Twitter to share her experience with other moms.

She wrote, “I am having a very rough day and it would help me a lot if any moms would like to share stories of their kids being mean to them.” Her post was liked over 75,000 times and many moms responded to her request, proving she's not alone.

13 Sharing Attention Between Your Children Is No Easy Task

Chrissy Teigen has two children under the age of two, and welcomed her second, Miles, in May of 2018. If she thought raising one child was hard, she realized having a second came with a completely new set of challenges.

She often worried she’s not spending enough time with her daughter, and revealed her thoughts in an interview with The Cut.

She said, “Luckily, a lot of my best friends have two kids and they’re teaching me so much. I get really worried I’m not going to pay enough attention to Luna, but they’ve told me you actually start overcompensating and paying too much attention to your first. So there are a lot of these little things I always wonder about.”

12 When You’re A Mom, The Sound Of Other People’s Crying Babies Doesn’t Worry You

If you’re stuck on public transport, especially a plane, the sound of a crying child is most likely going to irritate you. Most times, you really want to relax, and then the screaming baby won’t allow it. But once you become a mom, this changes because you can relate.

And sometimes, if you’re like Chrissy Teigen, you almost feel comforted by the sound of a crying infant because it reminds you of your own little one. Teigen shared these views on Twitter, writing,

“There is a baby crying on the plane but I don't mind it because it reminds me of Luna. Who am I please send help.”

11 It Seems Like Moms Will Never Find The Perfect Balance When It Comes To Sleep

Chrissy Teigen reminded us of the struggle many moms face when it comes to their child sleeping: you want them to be awake when they are sleeping, and then when they are actually awake, you just want them to go to sleep so you can get some peace and quiet.

It's a situation almost every mom has found themselves in, and Teigen took to Twitter to share these views. She wrote,

“When Luna is awake I want her to sleep and when she is asleep I want her awake. This is my parenting life.”

Truer words have not been spoken.

10 There Is No Joy Like The First Time You See Your Baby Smile

Being a mother is often a thankless and exhausting job -- we all know this -- but there are many aspects about it that make it so rewarding, and perhaps one of the most beautiful moments is when you experience seeing your little one’s smiling face for the first time.

Chrissy Teigen discussed this in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying, “But it's the little smiles that get you. ... There is no feeling like that first little smile, your first Mother's Day, which was so beautiful and sweet to me. The entire day my eyes were on the verge of tears because I was so happy."

9 After Birth, You’ll Look At Yourself, And Think How Did All These Changes Happen?!

Chrissy Teigen is a woman who initially made her money because of her figure, and she was one of the most well-known swimsuit models in the world. But even supermodels get tiger stripes after giving birth, and this is something Teigen wanted to share with the world when she posted a video to her Instagram story that showed the lines.

In the video, she stated,

"I guess these just aren’t going to go away. This is my new body." But the best thing about this video is she has fully embraced her new self!

8 There Is No Shame In Asking For Help

Every woman has a different approach to raising her children, and while some prefer to do it all on their own without the help of a nanny, others take advantage of the extra help. Whatever a mother chooses to do is right for herself and her family, but there should definitely be no judgment about either decision.

Chrissy Teigen has help, and she’s not afraid to admit she needs it. She told Yahoo Style,

“We have help. It’s important for people to know that. I have the utmost respect for mothers and single mothers who go to work and come home and make dinner. I do all these things, because I have help..."

7 Almost Every Time You Look At Your Child, Something Has Changed

Many moms will tell you to enjoy your little one while you can because they grow up so quickly, and truer words have never been said, according to Chrissy Teigen. In an interview with People Now, Teigen spoke about her daughter, Luna, and her journey into motherhood.

Speaking of motherhood she said, “It’s so crazy already.” She went on to reveal she couldn’t believe all the changes, but more than that, how quickly they come about.

“I feel really good. I have a ton of energy and it’s so different every day," she said. "Every little time you look at her, something’s crazy different.”

6 Even After One Baby, You're No Expert On Parenting

Chrissy Teigen doesn’t pretend to be an expert on motherhood, and this makes her so relatable, because can you ever really be an expert?! She was asked by The Cut if she feels like an expert after joining forces with Pampers, to which she revealed she definitely was not.

Teigen also shared how she likes to take advice from other moms, and continually learns from them.

“I still hit up other people for advice all the time, especially people with two kids,"

she explained. "That’s something I’m really curious about right now — how to deal with your first when you have a second coming along, especially when they’re so young.”

5 Sometimes Society Makes Women Feel Pressured To Have Children

Chrissy Teigen couldn’t be happier she’s a mom, and she tried for many, many years to become one, but she also feels society judges women who don't want to have children.

In an interview with Refinery29, she said, "I don't feel like people should be pressured to have children. I'm sure that when you announce that fact to somebody, they're very quick to be like, 'Gasp! Why don't you want kids?' And I've never been that way with people, because I don't think any of us should assume all women's goals are to have kids. It's a choice!"

4 Of Course, Your Life Changes After You Have A Kid, But It’s OK

There are so many things that change after you become a parent, some are obvious, like the sleepless nights and the diaper changes, and then there are other changes people don’t warn you about. Of course, your life is going to have to adjust to deal with these changes, but that doesn't mean you don't lose who you are. And this is something which Teigen explained to Refinery29.

Acknowledging that there are changes once you become a mother, Teigen stated, "You naturally change because there's something else that consumes your mind at all times and I don't think you can help that, but you can still be cool!"

3 Finding Time For Yourself Is Important, But Almost Impossible To Do

Moms often feel guilty about having "me" time, and although it's not always possible because there isn't someone else who can help out, Chrissy Teigen has spoken about the importance of having a break and spending time with her husband.

She spoke about this in an interview with Today, saying,

"We’re very lucky to be able to have date nights. Not a lot of people can go on date nights, can have a sitter and have someone take care of their baby. 'Me time' is important, but not everybody can do it."

Her comments make it clear that even though she's a celebrity, she's not out of touch.

2 Finding Time For Your Husband Is Also Hard When You’re Exhausted

Moms have so many different roles, and they have to perform all of them with very little sleep. So, having a date night with your partner may take a back seat. Sometimes a mom’s perfect night may just be a few hours of alone time in bed. Supermodels and R&B stars feel this way too, and Chrissy Teigen knows it’s hard to be spontaneous when you’re exhausted.

She told Women’s Health, “We still have that passion for each other, but are we [expressing] it randomly in a dressing room? No!”

1 All Parents (Even A-List Ones) Have Good Cop, Bad Cop Roles

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have the good cop, bad cop roles; as in, sometimes one parent will take care of the discipline, and the other one is the nice one who gives in. In Teigen’s household, the one who gives in is her husband, and this is something she spoke about with BUILD Series.

She said,

“He will say no and then if [Luna] asks one more time, it’s a yes. He’s a bit of a pushover with Luna. I think it’s because they look so much alike and he’s like, ‘Okay, you beautiful being. Anything you want.'”
