Gwyneth Paltrow is a successful woman who has done tremendously well for herself. She is also a mother to two children, Apple and Moses, who she shares with ex-husband Chris Martin, and the former couple seems to be total goals when it comes to co-parenting. Despite the many things that can be said about Paltrow, there is absolutely no denying that she’s a dedicated mom who loves her children unconditionally. However, she is also a bit out of touch from regular moms, or as she calls them, the “common woman.”

Paltrow likes to speak her mind about things close to her heart. Parenting and motherhood are definitely among those things, but when she tells women there is no excuse to find time to exercise and they can do it with their baby crawling in the room, or she states that she has it harder than other working moms, then it’s not hard to see why so many people roll their eyes at her and dismiss her comments -- or retort back with some choice words.

So, keeping this in mind, below are 20 things that Gwyneth Paltrow has said about being a mom that no one can really relate too.

20 When It Comes To Food, Gwyneth Thinks Anything Goes

Gwyneth Paltrow is raising two children, and as any parent would, she appears to have an endless amount of love for them, which she shows off in countless social media posts. This love she has for her children is something most moms will be able to relate to, what they will find less relatable is her food philosophy, which she shared in an interview with Women’s Health (via People).

She said, "My food philosophy is 'Nothing should be ruled out.' I don't believe in saying, 'You're not allowed that.' If my kids want a Shirley Temple with the radioactive cherry in it, go for it, you know?"

But do we know?!

19 She Cannot Understand The Concept Of Feeding A Family On A Budget

Gwyneth Paltrow has enjoyed success in her job and she is comfortable financially, which means she probably wants for very little. It also means she has no idea how to budget, and she highlighted this when she discussed the $29 a week challenge (#FoodBankNYCChallenge) on her Goop website.

She was asked to do the challenge by chef Mario Batali, and while Paltrow makes some fair comments about the amount of money some families have to live off, she also makes some unrelatable ones. She wrote,

Many hardworking mothers are being asked to do the impossible: Feed their families on a budget which can only support food businesses that provide low-quality food. The food system in our beautiful country needs to be subjected to a heavy revision—it is a cyclical problem, with repercussions that we all feel…

18 She Thinks Being An Actress Is So Much Harder Than Having a ‘Regular Job’

All in one breath, Gwyneth Paltrow manages to tell women she can relate to them and that she is just like the "common woman," only to then also complain about how hard her life is.

In one of her more dislikable quotes, Paltrow told E! News, "It's much harder for me — I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as hard, of course there are challenges, but it's not like being on set."

Not too surprisingly, her comment rubbed fans the wrong way, especially considering the fact that she most certainly does not face bigger challenges than other working moms.

17 ...And Her Attempt To Explain What She Really Meant Didn’t Help Much

After her aforementioned comment didn't receive the reception she was undoubtedly hoping for, Gwyneth Paltrow decided she needed to clarify what she meant. Unfortunately, that didn't help either.

On her Goop website (via E! News), she explained that since having children, she had not worked in the entertainment industry as much because filming times were very exhausting (often requiring 12-14 hours a day) which did not allow her to have a normal routine with her kids.

She continued, "So I have found it easier on my family life to make a film the exception, and my 9-5 job the rule. This somehow was taken to mean I had said a 9-5 job is easier, and a lot of heat was thrown my way, especially by other working mothers who somehow used my out-of-context quote as an opportunity to express feelings (perhaps projected) on the subject…

16 She Feels Incredibly Close To The ‘Common Woman’

Gwyneth Paltrow wants all of us “common” women to know she’s really just like the rest of us, despite her privileged life.

She told CNN Money, "I'm incredibly close to the common woman in that I'm a woman and I'm a mother. We all are in a physical body with beating hearts, with compassion and love. We are all seekers, we all want questions, we all want fulfillment, we want to live our best lives. We want to be healthy and happy and squeeze the most that we can out of life. I think that's all women."

15 She Encouraged Her Daughter To Skip Class

Most parents will agree that it’s important to spend quality time with your children, and busy work schedules can make this hard. But most would probably also agree that you can’t just pull your child out of school during the week to spend a day at the salon with them, as Gwyneth Paltrow did with her daughter, Apple (who was six at the time).

Paltrow told Good Housekeeping in 2011, that she needed to spend quality time with her daughter, and so, her solution was not to wait until the weekend, but rather let her skip class. “I’ll probably get [removed from] our school for admitting this, but I let Apple stay home yesterday," she said, adding, "I just needed to be with her. We went out to lunch, we went to the beauty salon, we were together.”

14 She Totally Advocates Letting Loose (Even With The Kids Around)

No one is ever going to say parenting is easy, and there are many struggles that mothers and father’s face each day which leave them exhausted and sometimes wanting to pull their hair out. There are times when every parent needs to cool down and let loose, but there is a time and place for this, usually when the kids aren't around.

In an interview with Redbook, Gwyneth Paltrow was asked what her last meal would be, to which she replied, "Oysters and [...] sauce, and then a baked, stuffed lobster and french fries. I would have a baguette and a cheese course for my dessert, and [a glass of red].”

She then went on to explain that she drank when her children were small, because, “How else could I get through my day?"

13 She Doesn't Understand Why More Mothers Don't Work Out

Finding the motivation to work out after a long day is hard, but finding the time or the opportunity to do it while caring for a small child is near-impossible. However, Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t feel this way, and for her, there is no excuse to not work out.

She spoke about her approach to working out with New York Daily News, telling the publication, "Every woman can make time [to workout] — every woman — and you can do it with your baby in the room. There have been countless times where I've worked out with my kids crawling around all over the place. You just make it work."

12 In An Ideal World, Her Children Would Be In The Sun Picking Avocados Every Day -- Sorry, What?!

When it comes to the sun, Gwyneth Paltrow has some interesting comments about it. For example, she feels the sun cannot be bad for you when it’s natural (she shared these thoughts with Cosmopolitan). But she has also shared a different kind of view on how she would like her children to grow up.

She told Harper’s Bazaar that she wanted to move her children from the United Kingdom to California, with her reasoning being, "Just to have my kids be in the sun every day — picking avocados, going for a swim. Even for two years or something, and come back when they go to senior school."

11 She Understands That Her Own Health Is Important, And She’s Right, It’s Just The Way She Said It

Gwyneth Paltrow has said things over the years that have made people roll their eyes at her, laugh at her, or simply retort with some choice words.

She is the type of person who doesn’t hold back when it comes to sharing her opinions, and sometimes there is merit in what she is saying, she just delivers the message in an odd way.

One of these times was when she spoke to Self (via Huffington Post) about taking care of yourself, except the way she worded it made her seem unpleasant. She said, "Taking care of yourself is being there for your kids, like how on a plane, they tell you to put on your oxygen mask first." OK, there you have it!

10 Living In England Is Fab Except For One Major Issue

Before Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who is English, “consciously uncoupled” they lived in England together and raised their children here. The problem with the English accent though, for Paltrow, is how they pronounce the word “pasta” and she doesn’t want her children to pick up on this habit.

According to The Guardian, she previously said, "I've lived in England for 10 years and the accent is the most beautiful in the world, except for how you pronounce 'pasta' as 'pasta' instead of 'pah-sta.' I'm sort of joking when I say this but I really don't want my children speaking that way."

9 Will She Pack Up And Leave Then?

For a time, Gwyneth Paltrow and her now-ex-husband Chris Martin were raising their children in England, and Paltrow has made a few comparisons -- everything from dinner parties to pronunciation -- between the country and the United States. Of course, if she chooses to raise her children in this country, then they will adopt the local accent, something which Paltrow is not too happy about.

At least, not when it comes to certain words. Speaking of her daughter’s accent, she told Daily Star (via Us Weekly), "Apple says 'Mummy' instead of 'Mommy' — I don't mind that. I will if she starts saying 'basil' and 'pasta' the English way, as that really drives me nuts."

8 She Tried To Make Moms Believe Her Life Is Really Far From Perfect

Gwyneth Paltrow has a lot and she is extremely lucky to be in the position she is in, but it seems she sometimes forgets about the perks and privileges she enjoys. Either that, or she is trying to downplay how great her life is in an attempt to be relatable to a wider audience, and she did this by trying to convince everyone she has the same struggles as “any other mother.”

She told USA Today (via PopSugar), "I'm just a normal mother with the same [problems] as any other mother who's trying to do everything at once and trying to be a wife and maintain a relationship. There's absolutely nothing perfect about my life, but I just try hard."

7 Gwyneth Amuses Her Children In Winter With A Visiting Chef From Italy

As mentioned previously, Gwyneth Paltrow has had great fun comparing her life and after spending ten years in London, she found she was missing the sun in California. But here’s where the unrelatable part comes in; Paltrow told Harper’s Bazaar that she survived the winter, or more specifically the month of January by assigning it "international month.” And for the international month, she entertains her children with, according to the publication, “a visiting [chef from Italy], anime screenings, and hand-rolled-sushi lessons.”

This, from the same person who claims her life is far from perfect and she’s close to being the “common woman.”

6 Never Bring Cup-A-Soup Anywhere Near Gwyneth Paltrow’s Home

Gwyneth Paltrow has made many food quotes over the years, and we know she would rather be dining on a baked stuffed lobster and organic produce than anything readymade, but her comments on Cup-a-Soup are just unsavory.

During an interview with Conan O’Brien (via New York Daily News), stated she would never let her kids eat Cup-a-Soup. And what can even be said about her views? Does she really imagine that no one has ever eaten Cup-A-Soup before?

Sorry Gwyn, but we are all most certainly shaking our heads at this comment as most of us have this stuff in our homes!

5 She Loves To Compare Cultures By Rating Their Dinner Parties

This point is not so much about what Gwyneth Paltrow has said about being a mom, but rather about how she has such privileged problems, and many people cannot relate the annoyances she has. She is so far from being the “common woman” she doesn’t even realize that comparing the way cultures approach dinner parties is not what the rest of us do on a daily basis. More specifically, she enjoys comparing the way her country of origin and the one she currently lives in goes about throwing dinner parties.

According to Forbes, she has said: “We have great dinner parties at which everyone sits around talking about [...] history, art, and literature – all this peppered with really funny jokes. But back [home], I was at a party and a girl looked at me and said, ‘Oh, my God! Are those Juicy jeans that you’re wearing?’ and I thought, I can’t stay here. I have to get back to Europe.

4 Some Of Her Comments Are Confusing

No one can take Gwyneth Paltrow’s accomplishments away from her, and there is no denying that she has enjoyed success during her time as an actress. And for Paltrow, it’s really hard to find the balance between being awesome and working for "fun" and experiencing mom guilt.

She spoke about mom guilt with Good Housekeeping, saying, "I do feel so guilty and, like, What am I doing? But I also want them to know work is really fun for me — 'Hey, look what I get to do!' As opposed to feeling like, Oh, I'm [not a good] mother. Because that really just doesn't get you anywhere. It doesn't get them anywhere.'"

3 Her Cooking Tips Really Need Some Improvement

Gwyneth Paltrow likes to speak about her passion for food, as well as letting loose and having a few drinks with meals. She told Vogue her approach to cooking is,

"Invest in what's real. Clean as you go. Drink while you cook. Make it fun. It doesn't have to be complicated. It will be what it will be."

But perhaps not every mom can relate to her cooking tips because how often do you have time to drink while trying to juggle 101 tasks, which include trying to get children to listen while preparing a meal you hope they are actually going to eat!

2 She Hires Nannies That Can Teach Her Children Different Languages

The fact that Gwyneth Paltrow has hired help is not what makes her un-relatable because there is nothing wrong with asking for help, and if you can afford to get someone to assist you in raising your children, then that’s your choice. But the difference between Paltrow, and other women who have hired help is that she places special importance on hiring international nannies, instead of employing someone local.

The reason it seems is that they can teach her children how to speak multiple languages. Speaking of her family’s nanny, Paltrow told Harper’s Bazaar, “She’s [from France], so she’s teaching them [the language], and their previous nanny was [from Spain], so they’re fluent in [that, too]

1 She Can’t Stop Speaking About Feeding Everyone Organic Products

Food is important to Gwyneth Paltrow; she likes dinner parties, she speaks about cooking and drinking, and although you probably won’t find her trying another $29 a week challenge again, she does have strong arguments for healthy eating and is also a big fan of organic produce. That, and she's all about finding life’s balance.

Although her balance between organic produce and beauty treatments, may not be something everyone can get behind. She spoke about life’s balances in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, saying, “I use organic products, but I get lasers. It’s what makes life interesting, finding the balance between [bad habits] and tofu. I’ve probably tried everything..."
