Whenever a new member enters the Royal family, the entire world explodes with glee and joy. Whether they're an average everyday person, in show business, or even the richest person in the world (ok, maybe not that far,) fans around the world will want to know what they're up to, what they said, what they wore, what they ate and much more. But, when it comes to food, it's not only the recipe that they want to know or why they enjoy that type of food, but because they look the way they do. Maybe they have a secret recipe that came from generations before, and fans need to know.  Although some tastes are more refined than others, there will always be a food that they want to indulge in at any given moment. This is no different for the beautiful former Suits actress and newlywed Royal, Meghan Markle and her sister-in-law (or is it Duchess-in-law.)

The Duchess of Sussex, AKA Meghan Markle, especially loves pasta. While her darling Duchess-in-law, Kate Middleton, enjoys pasta when she travels. And though there are not that many images of Kate Middleton eating or even looking at food, there was a glimpse into her world as a Duchess that has images to support these claims. Now that the two Royal ladies are connected by marriage, there are rules they have to follow for their fashion sense, how they raise their children and even what they eat. So, Meghan, say goodbye to that sashimi because it won't be happening as long as you're a Royal.

Let's take a look at the foods that they loved before becoming a Royal and what they'll still be able enjoy now that they've married into one of the most talked about Royal families in the world.

25 Meghan Begins Her Mornings With Oats, Banana And Agave Syrup

While Meghan Markle was filming Suits, she was picked up at 4:15 in the morning and spent the rest of day on the set. She prepared herself a cup of warm water with lemon slices, accompanied by a bowl of steel-cut oats with bananas and agave syrup drizzled on top. Talk about yum!

A great bowl of oatmeal can have many health benefits. Oats are naturally gluten-free which can help control weight by keeping you fuller longer. They also provide important nutrients and proteins. One cup of oats generally contains 150 calories, four grams of fiber and six grams of protein. All things that will help with digestion, can help lower cholesterol and regulate blood glucose levels.

Drinking warm water with lemon first thing in the morning, as Meghan does, also has many health benefits. One cup of warm water can help with digestion, keeps the skin glowing and hydrated, helps maintain weight and gives the body an immune system boost which is important for anyone (especially for someone who is on set all day). German researchers have found that drinking enough water can increase metabolism,

"After drinking approximately 17 ounces of water, the subjects’ metabolic rates — or the rate at which calories are burned — increased by 30 percent for both men and women. The increases occurred within 10 minutes of water consumption and reached a maximum after about 30 to 40 minutes"

24 Kate Goes Gaga For Gazpacho

Kate Middleton has been reported to enjoy a raw food diet every so often to help her skin keep a healthy glow. Eating raw foods have been proven to be healthier, as they have a higher nutrient content over cooked food. One of Kate Middleton’s favorite raw foods to turn to is Gazpacho.

Gazpacho is a type of soup that is served cold, made with raw vegetables like tomatoes and peppers. Add to that some garlic, and bread, that are all blended together. The soup is widely consumed in countries like Spain and Portugal during their hot summers as it is refreshing.

Due to the raw vegetables that are blended together, gazpacho has many different health benefits. It has a high content of minerals, antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins C, A, and E. It can help prevent colds due to its high vitamin content. It also acts as a delicious anti-aging formula due to its antioxidants properties, it also keeps your body hydrated.

When your body is properly hydrated it relieves the feeling of fatigue, helps digestion and improves your body’s overall performance. Being a primarily tomato-based soup, enjoying this delicious treat regularly can help protect your skin from the sun and maintain a good tan (hint, hint ladies.)

23 Meghan's Glowing Skin Stays Energized Thanks To Her Green Juice

We've all had that moment where we want to dive head first into the office coffee pot between midday and late afternoon. For Meghan Markle; however, an afternoon green juice is "a necessary evil." She chose to combine a healthy variety of greens along with other fruit that gave her an afternoon boost while on set rather than reaching for a cup of coffee.

"It's easy to fall into the trap of rushing for a coffee when you hit that 4 p.m. slump," she told Today. "But if I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon, and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than a cup of espresso." The self-proclaimed "foodie" also recommends changing up the recipe by adding berries or almond milk to the mix.

Green juices have gained popularity in recent years, as they provide most, if not all, the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables. They provide a dose of extra energy, helps boost the immune system and can help with weight loss.

22 Though Kate Can't Have Ceviche, It Was Still Her Favorite Once

Keeping to her raw food diet, the Duchess of Cambridge is said to enjoy a refreshing bowl of ceviche from time to time.

Like Gazpacho, ceviche is served cold. The dish consists of “raw” fish that has been marinated in citrus juices. In order to eliminate potential health risks of eating this raw  fish dish, it must be of high-quality and extremely fresh.

Like with other raw foods, the fish keeps more of its nutrients because they don’t get burned away by a cooking method. Depending on the type of fish used to prepare this cold dish, it can provide 15 to 30 grams of protein (in a three-ounce portion). It also contains Omega-3 fatty acids which, as discussed earlier, can help prevent heart disease.

The fresh lime juice that marinates the fish is loaded with vitamin C that helps prevent colds and many bacterial illnesses.

As the dish is not generally topped with additional sauces, there are no extra unnecessary calories. Also, most fish is low in fat so ceviche, when prepared properly is actually very healthy to enjoy at lunch, supper or any snack in between!

21 Meghan Absolutely Loves French Fries, But Then Again, Who Doesn't?

The newlywed Royal understands balance is everything when it comes to indulging in her favorite foods whether it be a dessert or a bowl of french fries. She has admitted that every day could be a fry day and does not deprive herself of indulging, as long as she does so in moderation.

"Because I work out the way I do, I don't ever want to feel deprived. I feel that the second you do that is when you start to binge on things. It's not a diet; it's lifestyle eating."

During the times that she was not filming on the set of Suits, or if she was on one of her many vacations then she said all bets were off. Her vacation go-to lunch is seafood and if she's lucky, french fries.

"I'm always hoping I'm having lunch with people, so we can share fries. It's its own food group for me," said Markle. "I could eat french fries all day." Her fans see her power of balancing her food intake when she explains to Shape, "I definitely just try to avoid the things that I know are going to make me feel lethargic or sluggish."

20 Kate Channels Her Inner Royal By Eating Lamb

In 2011 during a reception following one of the most talked about marriages, the happy newlyweds sat down and enjoyed organic lamb with their guests. In 2016, the Duchess of Cambridge was also spotted eating lamb at the Taste of British Columbia Food Festival.

Although Kate Middleton enjoys eating lamb, she has also melted the hearts of her fans when she visited a lamb farm for charity in 2017 where she befriended and bottle fed a lamb.

Lamb is considered red meat and when it is consumed in moderation, it has excellent health benefits. Lamb is an excellent source of protein and nutrients like iron, zinc, selenium and vitamin B12. Due to its high vitamin B12 content, lamb meat is an excellent nervous system health promoter. A study done by the National Institute of Health's Dietary Office estimates that between 1.5 and 15 percent of Americans have a vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 is one of the "B" type vitamins that helps the nervous system function as it should and ensures that the nerves' cells remain in a healthy state. It may sound impossible to get enough vitamin B12, but just a three-ounce piece of lamb meat can provide just under half a person's recommended daily B12 intake.

19 Meghan's A True Canadian Now That Her Favorite Food Is Poutine

Loving french fries the way Meghan does, it is no wonder that she discovered one of Canada's main "junk food" delicacies. While shooting the hit television series Suits in Toronto, this former actress discovered the secret behind authentic poutine.

Poutine is a dish that consists of french fries, topped with curd cheese and smothered in gravy. Many restaurants; however, experiment with different kinds of cheese (which is a big no-no if you're a poutine purist).

"It's got to squeak when you bite into it," Markle says. "Really. The cheese curds should make a squeaking noise when you bite into them or squeeze them. That's how you know you've got the right kind."

Although poutine is a rather extravagant indulgence that the Duchess of Sussex has, her fitness routine of yoga and running allows her to enjoy this dish with no worries.

"My mom was a yoga instructor so that practice is in my blood," Markle has said. "I love an intense vinyasa class — and even better if it's blasting hip-hop and done in a dark room with candlelight."

"Running has always been my form of moving meditation, which I relish because it allows me to get out of my head," Markle previously told Women's Health.

18 Kate Indulges On Her Grandmother's Chutney

Is there anything better than an old-time family recipe? Not for Kate Middleton, who thinks that her grandmother's marrow chutney is fit for a Queen ... literally. The Duchess of Cambridge admitted, in a documentary made in honor of the Queen's 90th birthday, that she wasn't sure what she should get her Royal grandmother-in-law for Christmas.

"I can remember being at Sandringham for the first time at Christmas. And I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, 'Gosh, what should I give her?' I thought back to what I would give my own grandparents," said Kate. "And I thought, 'I'll make her something,' which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny's recipe of chutney."

The marrow in this recipe refers to a type of squash rather than bone marrow. The chutney, once made, is a fruity condiment that can be paired with cheese or bread. The marrow vegetable used in this chutney aids in digestion, reduces cholesterol, as a green vegetable it is rich in Vitamin C and mineral iron, has a high fiber content that can help you stay fuller longer and can even prevent the formation of kidney stones.

17 Meghan's A Real College Student, Loving Her Boxed Mac and Cheese

In an interview with the ladies over at Eye Swoon blog, Markle was asked what she embarrassingly and secretly enjoyed eating.

"I love a french fry, but there’s no shame in that. But you know what I do really happen to lovvvvve is that boxed macaroni and cheese. I now buy the Annie’s organic one if I’m craving it, but I throw some frozen peas into it and have this gooey simple childlike meal. I used to cook it for the kids I would babysit and I always enjoyed feeling like a kid and eating it with them. I’m also not averse to eating tater tots with ketchup and sriracha."

Really? Who could have guessed that the Los Angeles native, and now married Royal, would enjoy a box of macaroni and cheese? There is no shame in enjoying boxed mac and cheese, especially one which is on the healthier side of boxed food. Annie's Organic Mac and Cheese is made with organic wheat macaroni, cheddar cheese (cultured pasteurized milk, salt, non-animal enzymes), whey, nonfat milk, butter, salt, cultured whole milk, sodium phosphate, annatto extract for color.

16 Of Course, Meghan Loves Her Pasta

Boxed macaroni and cheese is not the only type of pasta the Duchess of Sussex loves to prepare and eat. In an interview with Bazaar, she expresses her love for pasta,

"... I love pasta. I love carbs — who doesn't love a carbohydrate?"

Her favorite type of pasta to conjure up in the kitchen is pasta with a mush and combines it with zucchini.

"The sauce gets so creamy you'd swear there's tons of butter and oil in it, but it's just zucchini, water, and a little bouillon," Markle said.

Unlike her grandmother-in-law, her Royal Majesty the Queen, who has a strict no starch rule in her diet, Markle has made a name for herself as a carb lover. As explained by Kelly Kennedy, RD, the manager of nutrition at Everyday Health, “Including favorite foods in moderation is a great way to make a diet more maintainable. Often, when people restrict themselves too much, they tend to give in eventually and go overboard with the foods they had eliminated,” says Kennedy, adding that “by building these foods into her eating plan on occasion, Ms. Markle is setting herself up for success by not making them off-limits."

15 Kate Can't Get Enough Tabbouleh

Keeping her athletic figure (even after giving birth to three children) and her skin looking flawless, is largely possible by incorporating a raw food diet into her weekly menu.

In addition to ceviche and gazpacho that were mentioned earlier, Kate also enjoys indulging in the Lebanese dish, Tabbouleh. Tabbouleh is a vegetarian salad made of mostly finely chopped parsley with tomatoes, mint, onion, bulgur (cracked wheat) all mixed together and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Voila!

As most of the Duchess's diet, this dish is extremely healthy. Some of the benefits to eating this Lebanese dish are that it keeps your immune system strong, supports kidney functions by helping to flush out excess fluid from the body, it is rich in vitamin C and it can lower your cancer risk. But, it can also detox our bodies. The parsley found in this recipe is the key ingredient to make most of all this possible, as it is rich in all the essential vitamins such as C, B12, K, and A.

The bulgur found in tabbouleh is also a good source of fiber, protein, iron and also vitamin B-6.

14 Meghan Should Just Quit The Palace And Live On A Vineyard

There is nothing better than sitting down with a bowl of pasta and a glass of red -- specifically Tignanello -- after a long day of filming on set or advocating for women's rights.

Markle enjoys a glass of this dry red magic without overindulging.  She loves this large glass of liquid gold (well red,) so much so that she named her blog (which has now shut down,) The Tig. Speaking with Eye Swoon, she explains how she was inspired to title her blog after the wine:

"My sip of that [...] was my first moment of understanding the nuance people had always described in [...] – the tasting notes, the layers. It was such an ah-ha moment, so I took the nickname “Tig” and translated it for all of those moments of getting it. Understanding clothes can be art … so Tig. Having a perfect bite of pad thai that makes you understand what you’d been missing all those years – a Tig moment at its finest. That’s what the Tig means to me. Discovery and excitement all rolled into one."

Limiting yourself to one glass of red super juice daily has numerous health benefits for the body such as boosting your immune system. With its high levels of silicon, red wine may help increase bone mineral density, can help reduce cholesterol levels, and can even help maintain a good body weight.

13 Kate's High Protein/Low Carb Lifestyle Is Clearly Working For Her

Kate Middleton admitted to following a high protein/low carb diet called the Dukan Diet, founded by Dr. Dukan in the 1970s. She used this method to tone herself before her wedding. She also used this method to shed her baby weight quickly after each of her three births.

The lifestyle consists of four phases that must be followed in a strict fashion in order to be successful. The high protein foods suggested in the diet are to keep you full for longer and take more calories to burn.

The four phases of the diet are the attack phase, cruise phase, consolidation phase and stabilization phase. In brief, the attack phases is when "pure protein" is consumed for one to two or a full seven days, depending on how much weight one wants to shed. The cruise phase involves introducing vegetables to your daily intake for a couple of weeks. Again, it all depends on your end goals. The consolidation phase is when you can start introducing other foods into your meal plan. Finally, the stabilization phase is designed to help you maintain your loss. Dukan highly suggests including physical activity throughout the phases to aid in losing weight.

12 Meghan's Poached Eggs With Avocado And Toast Is The Perfect Brunch

As the former actress never misses breakfast, she has to adapt when she cannot keep to her daily routine. While on the road and has to stay in a hotel, she has a preferred room service breakfast: poached egg with avocado and toast. Poached eggs are boiled eggs but just without the shell.

Cooking eggs in this style are ranked one of the healthiest ways to make eggs and are a great alternative to frying or making an omelet.

For about 70 calories, a large poached egg supplies more than six grams of high-quality protein, 4.7 grams of mostly unsaturated fat and significant amounts of vitamin D, antioxidant compounds and choline, a nutrient essential to healthy brain function.

Avocados also have amazing nutritional benefits. They contain more potassium than bananas, they do not contain any cholesterol or sodium and are low in saturated fats. They also have high amounts of fiber and are loaded with vitamins. Avocado extracts may even help to relieve arthritis symptoms.

According to MindBodyGreen, "The Spanish priests forbade the Aztecs from eating avocado due to the natives' use of the fruit as a drive booster. Modern science has now shown that the potassium and folic acid in avocados support stamina and energy — so maybe the Aztecs were right."

11 Kate's Swears By A Raw Lifestyle To Cure Morning Sickness

It is widely known that the Duchess of Cambridge did not have easy pregnancies. She suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness. She reported to SELF magazine that she attempted to overcome her extreme nausea by not only undergoing food hypnotherapy but also by choosing a plant-based diet that included avocados and berries.

She also incorporated oatmeal to help her gain weight during her pregnancy, despite the morning sickness.

There are also health reasons to choose a primarily plant-based lifestyle (if you aren't doing it merely to evade morning sickness.) For example, it can decrease your risk of type 2 diabetes, it can help you to lose weight (even if a considerable amount of carbohydrates is included in the diet), it could potentially ward off prostate and breast cancers and it can help lower cholesterol.

Oats are gluten-free and a great source of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Oatmeal can help lower blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. They contain more protein and fat than most grains and are one of the most nutrient-dense foods one can eat.

Overnight oatmeal is a great way to have a prepared breakfast ready for to enjoy the morning rush and they are easy to meal prep!

10 Meghan Blends Together Smoothies Everyday (Clearly She's Not A Mother ... Yet)

Just as she enjoys her green juice, she also enjoys blending together a smoothie she calls "Clean Cleanse vanilla shake with blueberries." The ingredients? Vanilla shake powder, frozen blueberries, cinnamon, chia seeds, almond milk and coconut water. Super simple, yet super satisfying.

However, Meghan sometimes swaps out the blueberries for mangoes and the cinnamon for turmeric, (what a rebel!). Either way, this smoothie sounds delicious! Some of the benefits of these ingredients are that blueberries are a great source of vitamin C, vitamin K, and manganese. Cinnamon, most do not know, comes from the bark of about a dozen different varieties of evergreen trees. It can be used as a lip plumper, a face mask, a breath freshener and a dry skin scrub. It is also a high source of antioxidants!

As for our favorite ingredient on the list, almond milk is a great substitute for cow's milk. It contains calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc. The other nutrients available in this milk include vitamins such as C,  B6, E, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and folate. It reduce blood pressure, strengthens muscles and even has anti-cancer properties.

9 Kate's Sweet Tooth Didn't Stop When She Became A Royal

Although Kate Middleton seems to be a complete health nut, it has been reported that she actually enjoys indulging in sticky toffee pudding or jam roly-poly from time to time (this sounds very English, no?)

Sticky toffee pudding is a British dessert that consists of moist sponge cake, made with chopped dates and covered in a toffee sauce. It is often served with vanilla custard or vanilla ice cream.

Jam roly-poly, also known as shirt-sleeve pudding, is also a traditional British pudding. It is a dessert made of flat-rolled suet pudding (boiled, steamed or microwaved beef or mutton fat mixed with flour, bread crumbs, raisins and spice) that is layered with jam, rolled up and either steamed or baked. There are a variety of nicknames for this dish that came about as it was once served in an old shirt sleeve. And here we thought we were going to talk about cake.

Research shows that beef suet can actually compete for caloric content with a Big Mac or a Whopper! It is recorded that there are a staggering 900 (or more) calories per 100 grams of the animal fat. Whoa! No wonder the jam roly-poly is only served on occasion!

It is also reported that family gatherings often end with either of these desserts, but Kate is also known to serve her family other types of cakes and candies too.

8 Meghan's Love For Beaver Tails Isn't What You Think

They may sound bizarre but they are not what they seem. Unfortunately, the on-set crew of Suits did not explain this to the unsuspecting actress before announcing that they would be serving beaver tails:

"I was like, 'wait, I'm sorry; what's coming in?'" says Markle, who played paralegal Rachel Zane. She didn't hesitate to give it a try, though — especially when it turned out to be funnel cakes shaped like beaver tails, covered in caramel, chocolate and marshmallows.

Beaver tails are a Canadian dessert that can be described as a long flat doughnut covered with different types of sweet toppings. In different Canadian cities; however, you can find some beaver tails that are appropriate to eat as a lunch or dinner. These include topping the dough with cream cheese and tuna in Vancouver, ham and cheese style in Mont Tremblant and lobster in Halifax.

Indulging in this sweet treat is nothing more than acceptable for the famed star, as she says, "I'm eager to come to the UK to do a workout with Russell [Bateman], the founder of SBC. My friend Millie Macintosh raves about his workouts, so I’ll call her up to do a class together next time I’m back in London."

7 Kate Also Digs The Green Juice

Just like Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton also enjoys a dose of green juice for breakfast or as an afternoon pick me up.

According to reports by the Daily Mail, Kate enjoys a daily green juice, a Royal source revealed, “She drinks smoothies morning and afternoon containing spirulina, kale, matcha (a finely ground green tea powder), spinach, romaine, cilantro and blueberries.”

Spirulina is a natural "algae" powder very rich in protein and a good source of antioxidants, B-vitamins and other nutrients. It is made up of proteins, essential amino acids and is highly recommended for vegetarians due to its rich natural iron content. It can also help balance blood sugar, can help remove heavy metal from the body and it increases fat burning during exercise. It is made with the antioxidant, phycocyanin, which is a potent anti-inflammatory.

She also adds coriander, also known as cilantro, to her shake. The herb has a high vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, manganese, potassium, and copper content. Cilantro can help ward off unhealthy bacteria such as salmonella.

6 Meghan Stuns Again With Apple Slices With Almond Butter And Sea Salt

Meghan continues her trend of healthy eating when it comes to having a snack. Instead of running to the vending machine, as most of us would do, she opts for apple slices with almond butter and sprinkled with sea salt.

“This is a fantastic snack,” says Amy Gorin, RDN, the owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition in Jersey City, New Jersey. “Apples provide satiating fiber and almond butter offers filling, healthy fat, protein and more fiber. Salt can accentuate sweetness, so adding a small amount is completely fine.”

A small serving of almond butter contains good amounts of magnesium that promotes good heart health. It can also keep a person's blood sugar stable and almonds are full of vitamin E. It can be used to substitute any foods that you would normally pair with peanut butter.

Consuming sea salt in small amounts daily can actually help prevent dehydration. According to Dr. Axe, "essentially, water follows salt, which means if you increase sodium too much, water retention also occurs. At the same time, the opposite is also true: A loss in sodium results in a loss of water, potentially causing dehydration and extreme thirst."

Which is a great way to ensure that Meghan did not feel dehydrated while working long hours on set or while traveling.
