There is no right choice when it comes to marriage and whether a woman should change her last name, but it is a choice nonetheless.

Some women want to take their husband’s last name because they are traditional, or the man they are marrying is. Take Jenna Dewan Tatum as an example; she revealed her now ex-husband, Channing Tatum, is “very traditional,” and even her decision to add his last name to her own (making it Dewan Tatum) left him “miffed.” The actress revealed it was hard for her to let go of her given name, and many other women, famous or not, feel the same way.

Chrissy Teigen chose not to take her husband’s name, which received mixed feedback. But marriage does not require a woman to legally replace her last name, in fact, some men are even taking their wife’s last name as an attempt to break gender stereotypes -- or perhaps they just like the sound of hers more.

And if a woman wants to take her husband’s name? Well, that’s cool too! Below are A-listers who proudly took their husband’s last name, others who felt they would be better off keeping their own, and then a few who couldn’t decide what they wanted to do, or simply changed their mind after the first few marriages.

23 Before She Was Known As Victoria Beckham, She Was Posh Spice

It’s hard to imagine Victoria Beckham with any other name than the one she has now, not only because she now has an eponymous clothing empire. But before she was known as Victoria Beckham, the world only knew her as Posh Spice, one-fifth of the hit girl group, The Spice Girls.

Victoria’s name change happened when she married her husband, David Beckham, in 1999.

She legally changed her name from her maiden name, which is Adams (not Spice), after the wedding.

Fast forward two decades and the couple is still going strong, and are proud parents to four children.

22 Even After Kris Jenner’s Divorce, She Kept Her Name

Kris Jenner may be divorced from Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner) but she has kept the last name. This should not come as much of a surprise, because Kris is publicly known as Kris Jenner, but she also decided to keep the name as a show of respect to her youngest two children, Kylie and Kendall.

Kris previously revealed she was thinking of changing her name back to Kardashian, but told radio hosts Kyle and Jackie 'O' Henderson (via Daily Mail), “It happens to be two younger girls who have an amazing dad and I think I'm going to stay right where I am. It sounded good for a minute, but I went 'you just have to respect the relationship of the entire family.'"

She also decided to change her last name to Worthington, and this change included her social media names.

The couple met on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and according to Complex, they married in 1997, three years after their first meeting. Jada reflected on her decision to take Smith’s name on Facebook, writing, “I have always believed that an empowered woman is one that can stand on her own two feet and has the strength to trust her personal code of womanhood and not necessarily the code that a collective creates as the standard to which an independent woman must adhere to, to actually be identified as… independent.”

I told him: 'If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.’”

Their marriage lasted just 55 hours, and according to Alexander, it was Britney’s idea. He told ABC News, "She just came out and asked me. She was like, 'Well, let's get married.' And I was like, 'Sure. You know, let's do this.'"
